I really did try to exercise some restraint, and some of the commenters and I had out-of-band discussions via email about how far one could go with this.

For the original list I largely took my queue from comments Dr. White has made in the last couple of years. He has said that people thought of him as a "baby-eating Calvinist," and given the discussions in some forums about whether all infants who die are saved, it clicked.

Regarding Servetus... well, he's been dead a long time, and by now everybody should know that Servetus' death shouldn't be held against Calvin (any more than anybody else in that day and age, at any rate). And the first time I saw Dr. White in person he had this insanely powerful laser pointer that looked like he had swiped it from a lab at MIT, and he was whipping it around in a dark sanctuary before a presentation and making lightsaber noises. For some reason I put the two together.Charles Seboldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08198636431187051339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9313009.post-1155835552737499242006-08-17T12:25:00.000-05:002006-08-17T12:25:00.000-05:00(I won't link because, while some are hysterical, ...(I won't link because, while some are hysterical, others are not for our homeschooling moms... well, really, they're not for any of us).

Thank you.
