In it's current form, Lieberman said he cannot and will not vote for the bill. He also does not want the public option but he does not like the tax raises in the Finance even though it has no public option.

This bill will now be merged with the Health Committee bill and the liberal democrats have promised it must have a public option. If the bill is changed one iota and leans to a public option, then it is dead in the Senate. Kent Conrad, Democrat from ND already said he will not vote for a public option. Snowe will not vote for a public option. That's already two votes short of 60 and there are more democrats that are uncomfortable with the public option.

In addition, Lieberman says he cannot vote for this bill because of the taxes. Unless Senator Reid tries pulling this off with reconciliation where all you need is 51 votes (which is going to be terribly difficult), health care "reform" is DOA. I never thought I would be saying this, but thank goodness for the 60 vote supermajority rule in the Senate.CRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01912897040503058967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9313009.post-45606907206460781082009-10-14T14:42:16.745-05:002009-10-14T14:42:16.745-05:00One can always "Hope."

The headline makes it sound like Snowe's vote was the bipartisan, party-line-crossing courageous move that pushed it over the top. The reality is that it just moved the vote from 13-10 to 14-9. There's obviously no way Republicans can stop this thing, but by doing this Snowe has provided all sorts of political cover for the Dems. When it inevitably proves disastrous, they'll be able to claim it was bipartisan, so it's not like they're responsible for the failure and all the harm it causes, right?

I think Limbaugh (and no doubt others, I just happened to hear him) has the right idea on this. If the Republicans had any sense, they'd boycott the votes. They can't do a single thing to stop this or change it, so let the Democrats own it completely, along with the inevitable failure. Why even show up and dignify such a sham of a process?trogdorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11452996348717802065noreply@blogger.com
