During some of the hardest days of John's long illness i would often encourage him by reminding him how providential is was that he did not wait for retirement to write his books. He would smile, even when he could respond no other way. I would also remind him that even though he was confined to his wheelchair and bed his books and students were ministering around the world 24/7. John's memorial service was a great affair with many former colleagues and students, as well as family and friends were there. The eulogy/message was given by Pastor Todd Chapman a former student of John's at Trinity and the pastor of a local church near John and Patty's home in Fullerton, CA, where we also live. John's four adult children were there to speak insightfully about their Dad and I shared as a brother. John Piper, Wayne Grudem, Walt Kaiser and Chuck Swindoll also sent written tributes for me to read.John and Patty have deep roots and friendships at the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton where the memorial was held on January 13, 2017.
Piper posted his Tribute to John Sailhamer on his website or blog. A video of the service was made and we hope to make it accessible soon on Youtube for former students like yourself.
Thank you for your kind and appreciative words about my brother, John. I feel very much the same way as you do about him.
Paul Sailhamer
Romans 11:33-36
Fullerton CAsailhamerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02326968891582540355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9313009.post-44358840862521977612017-01-10T11:44:50.494-06:002017-01-10T11:44:50.494-06:00Here's a rememberance from someone who was abl...Here's a rememberance from someone who was able to spend more time with him than I had: http://tinyurl.com/z5jx7e8DJPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16471042180904855578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9313009.post-82431985526219666892017-01-10T07:57:35.756-06:002017-01-10T07:57:35.756-06:00I never had the privilege of meeting him, but call...I never had the privilege of meeting him, but called him once (about 2010) He was most gracious. I'd been assigned to teach Messianic Prophecy at Maranatha Baptist Seminary, He told me that everything he knew about the subject was in "The Meaning of the Pentateuch," which was recent at that time. He was very helpful. And, I have read "Meaning" all the way through. I think I've accomplished the same with "Narrative."Fred Moritzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17435883325894761378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9313009.post-34595815087170511682017-01-09T20:45:50.972-06:002017-01-09T20:45:50.972-06:00Thanks for this Dan. Sailhamer's 'Intro to OT Theology' and especially 'The Meaning of the Pentateuch' have influenced me greatly.

In fact I want to say that I have a suspicion that despite all the plaudits from evangelicals when 'Meaning' came out, I doubt that many of them actually read the book through. I doubt even more that Sailhamer's ideas were absorbed!

Anyway, I appreciate this. He was worthy of it.

Paul H. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
