It just occurred to me that, with my native readers and those who come over from Pyromaniacs, some pretty smart folks frequent these pages. Smarter than I, in a great many ways!
Maybe you can end a search I've had for decades.
I could swear that I read, at some point, J. Gresham Machen saying that for a pastor not to know Greek makes about as much sense as a professor of French literature not knowing French. But I've never been able to source that quotation; and, as I mean to write at some time, I'm a bit obsessive about not using quotations I can't source.
Does anyone know where that's from?

Dan,
I found an article here: http://homepage.mac.com/shanerosenthal/reformationink/jgmmingreek.htm
that is a Machen essay that talks about the minister and his Greek testament, and it would seem that of all places it would be here, but I couldn't find that exact quote. I'll keep looking.
Thanks, I really appreciate that. I thought it was actually in the intro to his Grammar, but when I looked again, I didn't see it. So I've stopped attributing it to him... until I can give him proper credit (or blame, I suppose, in the eyes of some -- but they're wrong!).
n rk n ho lo gos...I don't know, I can't even pronounce "grease'em mason". I need help.
Even So....
I couldn't find it either. I just bought his notes on Galatians, though. Good stuff.
