Wilhelm!

You may never have noticed this before.

Now you'll never not notice it!

This collection of clips had been online, then virtually disappeared. Now YouTube has it.

It's not up-to-date, of course. There's at least one in each of the Lord of the Rings movies. Get Wilhelmized, and you'll notice it all the time.

Speaking of movies, I assume you have heard of the "Doggie don't die" syndrome. Think of all the movies where a doggie is in peril, and at great risk to themselves, kids or others try to rescue the doggie. The doggie lives of course. A couple of examples: Dante's Peak or Twister. Now you'll notice that in movies too!

Wow. Thanks for ruining every single movie that I will ever see from here on.

I hear that same pitiful squall every Sunday when I step to the pulpit. I thought it was original, but now I find it was plagiarized from movies.

Oh, no, Buggy; it's fun. At least two of my kids -- when we see a movie, and there's a Wilhelm, we turn to each other and grin.

Next time you watch Return of the Jedi, notice the Imperial officer in the bunker who says "Freeze!" and gets knocked into the generator room by a thrown satchel. He's played by Ben Burtt. When he falls over the edge, Burtt attempts to emulate the Wilhelm scream, which he made famous -- because he's a sound department guy who used the Wilhelm over and over. (That's rephrased from IMDB.)

What tickles me is that I had noticed it and thought 'Does anyone really scream like that in real life?'

Dan, I've got to stay home from the teen goup tonight (I'm a leader, not a participant) with my sick 12 yr old.

Guess what we're going to be doing?

Playing that family favorite, "Find the Wilhelm"?

Couldn't do it after all. Princess was tired out, so she stayed home with the sick one instead of me. Maybe this weekend!

That is SO ANNOYING. I think you have thus ruined my movie watching experience and that pitch will be indelibly replaying over and over and over and over and over in my brain.

AAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhh- ooooh

When I very first started watching the clip and it was an old Western movie, my son (age 12) sitting across the room asked if I was watching Star Wars? Soon enough there WAS a clip from Star Wars. I thought it was amusing that he thought that!

That's great, Christina. And when people ask you what you learned from the Biblical Christianity blog, you can turn and say,

"WILHELM!"
