Wait a minute -- who's that on cowbell?!

My favorite band, Chicago, doing "Scrapbook" on a TV show from September 19, 1976.

Video quality's not the best. But you see the original group, including the matchless late, great Terry Kath wailing on guitar.

But... who's that on cowbell?

Exactly who I thought it was--wow!

Did you happen to see Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire do a joint concert last year (rerun???) on PBS--loved it!

"worst dressed"??? By 70's standards they were WITH IT!! :-) Still, I don't miss all the polyester of that era--makes my skin crawl! :-)

Sorry Dan....yes THAT one. TK was the best guitar player ever. From what I've heard Cetera was considered one of the best bass players around. I am really enjoying the early years of Chicago as of late.

Completely enjoy your blogs!!

Terry was a tremendous talent, his death a very sad loss.

People who are more musically educated say Cetera wasn't technically a great bass player, and I *think* he later said he didn't love playing it. He didn't play it on some of his solo efforts.

But this is a classic "I may not know art, but I know what I like" situation, in that I love Cetera's bass playing. There are songs that I just hum the bass line ("Woman Don't Want to Love Me," parts of "What's This World Coming To," etc.). I find his playing unique and fun, more so than his technically more proficient replacement, Jason Scheff.

I can't access YouTube from work, but if you're loving the early stuff, look for the usernames "ChicagoKid1969" and something about Mex-something. Both of them have uploaded a TON of concert footage, including some amazing early stuff. You can waste HOURS enjoying their stuff.

Not, of course, that I'd ever do anything like that.

I already have wasted hours watching this guy handle the axe !! The youtubers you mentioned are ChicagoKid1969 and juantoletemex.
I have enjoyed seeing the individual personalities coming out with these concert clips. Just to listen to Terry Kath is amazing yet depressing. What could have been. He was working on a his own album I grew up with these guys(Ballad years) and am now just starting to enjoy the old stuff again. Most of my youtube time is spent watching John Mac, Paul Washer, Piper, WOTM....
