Hymn lyric search
Isn't there a hymn that includes the words "tossed and torn by many a doubt"? I can't find it in Google by any combination I've tried. Did I mangle something essential... or make it up entirely?

Oh, duh. All I had to do is post this, and I almost immediately remembered. I'm almost certainly thinking of "Just As I Am":
Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
Repeat that seventeen times, and I'll do whatever you say.
Well, and that's the problem, isn't it? It really is a fine hymn, but cattle-callers have beaten it into the ground.
But you know they did sing it (as I recall) the day I trusted Christ. I don't think I'd ever heard the lyrics before, and I surely remember how they spoke to me, given the work the Spirit of God had been doing on my soul for some time leading up to that point.
As if abuse by the brethren wasn't enough, it was also both the title and soundtrack to that ER episode awhile back where the lesbian ER chief is "rejected" by her Christian birth mother (as in "I can't support your lifestyle but I still want to love you" to which Weaver replies something like "That's not love!" and stomps out of her mom's choir practice where they are rehearsing it....
That's right. Except we learned it "Fightings within, and fears without". AITT (Ain't it the truth?)
If you don't already know this site, try cyberhymnal.org -- you can actually listen to many an old time hymn
We wanted to let you know that the Cyber Hymnal (linked from this blog) has a new URL: http://www.hymntime.com/tch. Please spread the word!
God bless...
