Über-trivia 1

("1," because I'm sure I'll be back for more, sometime)

Is Mark Dever "Mark Devvvver," or is it "Mark Deeeever"?

Is R. C. Sproul "R. C. Sprole," or "Sprowl," or "Sprool"?

I'm pretty sure it's Dever rhyming with ever and I know it's /Sprole/.

I've always read them as Deeeever and Sprowl, but I could very well be wrong. :)

April is correct. It's #1 for both.

Mark Devvvver (short 'e' sound)

R.C. Sprole (long 'o' sound)

That was fun, what else ya got?

Yep. I said "Deeeever" until I started listening to Nine Marks. Then I heard him pronounce it himself.

When you only read them it's hard. I was just wondering yesterday while admiring my new books that came in the mail, is Richard Sibbes "Sibes" or "Sibbs"?

Dan... that was too easy.

How about... Thabiti Anyabwile.

Tah-bee-tee Ahn-yah-bwee-lay.

I couldn't resist aswering that one, and I also can't resit bragging that I got it right before I heard it spoken. It's just about my finest accomplishment.

Short 'e' on Dever's name and long 'o' sound on Sproul. I was wondering why you were saying "ow" on Sproul's name.

Thirsty David,

There might be variation, but I've seen and heard it with the /th/ pronounced, and not just a [t].

IOW, Tha-BEE-tee Ahn-yab-WEE-lay.

Mike,

I've heard that too, but when I spoke to him in person, he introduced himself with a T, no h. I suppose it's possible I heard wrong, but I don't think so.

I was a bit bored so I jumped from Pyro to here and found your neat little quiz! April is right on both. I have, however, heard R.C.'s last name been pronounced "Sprowl". I had a college professor who had the same last name but pronounced that way, so I thought R.C.'s had to be "Sprowl", until I heard R.C. pronounce it himself.

Ligon Duncan. Is it:

a) Leeg-uhn
b) Lie-guhn
c) Lihg-uhn
