I'm baaaack

Hi gang.

Just returned last night from six days in the Eastern Sierra with my 12yo Josiah. My wife's summary is that it was very much "guy-time": fishing, hiking, barbecuing, shooting, drinking (it's very dry)... other "guy" things.

Not much seems to have changed. Palin Derangement Syndrome is claiming more and more victims, the DNC/MSM (to use a tautology) is working overtime to destroy her and get their messiah anointed, evanjellybean creampuffs are puffing and pouting....

So, I'll try to gear my brainium up, jump back in, and have something worth saying.

Welcome baaaack.

What part of the eastern Sierra do you frequent? My family likes to do a week long backpacking trip every year, usually out of the Bishop Creek area, though it's been a while since I've been able to join in, what with young children and all.

As far as PDS goes, yes it's been quite entertaining. I've gotta run down to Albuquerque (nearest Costco) to buy another big box of popcorn (or two).

Mike, my family used to stay at Bishop Creek Lodge from (I think) the 40's on, or at least 50's. They also camped at Convict Lake from the 40s on.

I spend most of my time in the area between Bishop and Mammoth. In fact, Valerie and I honeymooned at the (now bought, closed and idle, grrrr) Paradise Lodge on Lower Rock Creek.

How can you destroy what you don't have access to? McCain has kept Palin far from the media lately (except the friendly softballers at Fox Entertainment).

I think the MSM has lost all interest in Palin as have the American people. The turmoil on Wall Street is far more important than what the great lipsticked one has to say.

Read any Alaskan newspapers lately?

Glad you had fun in the woods!!!

Do you think, Dan, what the MSM is doing is enough that we could become a nation that elects Obama?

Anonymous said...

The MSM will have little or no effect on the outcome of this election. It will be won or lost on the strength of the candidates positions on the economy & foreign policy. The mess on Wall St. will be the primary focus of the greater portion of Americans as we enter the final six weeks until election day. Contrary to the views of some, the MSM is not out to destroy McCain & Palin. If their candidacy is unsuccessful it will be because they did not appeal to mainstream America.

The vast majority of Americans have no clue about the MSM or its supposed biases. They do not read it, watch it, or listen to it. That is the fodder of political junkies like those on this and other blogs, talking heads on TV, and blowhards on the radio. If Obama is elected it will be in spite of, not because of the MSM, which does more to discourage anyone from voting than it does to encourage anyone to vote.

Even though Obama is currently ahead in all major polls he is still unlikely to win (though by all rights it should be a landslide year for the democrats) because of the residual racist/bubba vote. The AP poll indicated he will lose as much as 6% of the vote to people who simply can't vote for a black man. In an election as close as this one will be, the Bubbas will ensure a McCain victory.

Otherwise, I'm falling off my chair and rolling on the floor laughing just like I did when I heard Matt Damon demand to know whether Sarah P. believes dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, because, ya know, she might have access to the nuclear codes.

Are you serious? Seriously... You're using the gift of sarcasm right?

I have such thoughtful commenters. I don't even have to use graphics.

I just have to say "Palin Derangement Syndrome," and I'm-not-an-Obama-apologist-Obama-apologist Ichtys appears to add his little QED to my note.

And yes, of course, as I observed long ago, if Obama reaps the defeat he so richly deserves, it can only be because of racism. Or so we'll be scolded.

PS 1 - say, that's actually two QEDs from one comment! Bonus!

PS 2 - I assume you mean racist Democrats, btw.

CR said...

The only thing racist here is AP's Racist Poll.

But I'm wondering, DJP, do you think the MSM media's attempt to make the electorate feel guilty if we don't vote for Obama because we're racists, will work?

DJP said...

Carlo, it never ceases to frighten me how slack-jawedly so many people are led by the MSM, even now. "Sheeple" is an apt description of too many. So yes, I think many will be made to feel guilty. Judging just from unhinged comments we've gotten here or emails I've received from folks who should know better, the MSM line is being swallowed and swallowed deep.

It started with the initial snarling, baying pack. Enraged and humiliated (but not humbled) by their failure to score a quick, cheap kill, they've simply started down the list, pulling out every trick to avert the masses' attention - Palin's nuts, she's scandal-ridden, she's not having any impact, she reads her speeches, etc.

Meanwhile everywhere I go, physically or virtually, I run into people who have clicked solidly into McCain's column for one reason: Sarah Palin. They were "iffy" at best on him; perhaps even opposed. But now they're enthused.

If I had to predict, right now, sitting here, I'd say the MSM won't be successful. I'd say, the more they attack, the more heads explode and the more who make fools of themselves trying to bring her down, the better she'll look.

And, thanks to her (and Obama's huge negatives), I think/hope/pray McCain will win.

As of today.

I'm an example. I am, after all, the man who said back on 7/17

"In fact, about the only bumper sticker I can imagine displaying during this election would say something like:

McCain
Regrettably Necessary
"

Now, as you know, I envision a different bumper sticker.

Mike Westfall said...

You only envision such a bumper sticker?

Don't just dream, act!

Did you happen to see the Tina Fey impersonation of Mrs. Palin?

Neil Cameron (One Salient Oversight) said...

One person's Palin derangement syndrome is another person's serious concern that America might turn (more) into a dumbocracy.

DJP said...

Kim - the first one, with Hillary!, yes. Very good impersonation. Content, not so much.

OSO, if that's dumb, God send us more dumb elected officials.

And thanks for another elitist QED. Sigh. If only they could be converted for cash.

Re: the racism angle. It doesn't make me feel guilty. At. All. It makes me feel completely, unequivocally BLACKMAILED and I once again am tempted to abandon my previously commented commitment to Christian charity.

I'd say that I'm stunned that liberal women that claim to be so insulted by th(eir own) inference that they are being told to vote for the McPalin ticket because it's half woman refuse to acknowledge the very same argument in regards to Obamaden because it's one quarter black. (No inference needed)

But I'm not.

I'm mad. Really mad. And insulted.

Apparently, if I vote for a candidate because of his/her color or gender, I'm stupid and racist. But ONLY if I vote for McPalin. If I vote for TweedleDuh and TweedleIsHeReallyTHATDumb because of their color/gender, I'm smart. REAL smart.

On the other hand, if I vote for a candidate because of his/her stand on issues I care about, I'm stupid and racist. But ONLY if I vote for McPalin. If I vote for the other guys, I'm REALL smart, and Hollywood beautiful, too.

At least, that's the way it seems. But then again, I'm just probably stupid. And racist.

Anonymous said...

I heard Matt Damon demand to know whether Sarah P. believes dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago

Last time I looked, Matt Damon was just an idiot and not a member of the MSM.

CR,

So you cite some right-wing blogger to prove that the AP conducted a racist poll?

DJP,

I assume you mean racist Democrats

Of course. Everyone knows that white Republicans won't vote for a black man anyway, at least since the invention of Nixon's southern strategy and the abdication of the pursuit of equal rights by the GOP in the 1960's. I don't believe any GOP candidate for president has received more than, oh, 10-12% of the African-American vote since then.

"Sheeple" is an apt description of too many.

Yes, far too many conservative evangelicals, if you ask me.

Now, I have no dog or pony in this contest so I don't really care who wins. Labeling me as an Obama apologist is a useless waste of cyberspace. But, ya know, if it makes you happy.

One thing I'd like to know is why Republicans are so full of rage and hatred these days?

Icthys. It states on your profile that you teach Bible/Politics. I am surprised that you don't seem to see the bias that the MSM provides almost daily in a condescending fashion towards us hick Americans that would actually vote for McCain/Palin. Do you seriously not see the MSM's tendency to slam Palin at each and every turn?

If you are teaching Bible/Politics, then you must know of course, Obama's association with Saul Alinsky as his mentor. Does it not concern you that Alinsky provided a step-by-step procedure for securing a populace to embrace a Socialism/Marxism agenda? Or perhaps, since you are a professor, you have noticed that Obama stated on 60 Minutes that he could take a room of dissentors, two opposing views, and bring them to a consensus/compromised position. Of course, you recongnized that as the Dialectic Process which is utilized in society in order to bring about a predetermined outcome leading ultimately to Socialism. But perhaps it doesn't matter to you, because so many people don't seem to recognize that a Socialist position erodes motivation or inspiration. Why should we try to succeed as human beings when we are placed in a slot as a compliant worker in a class consisting of the working class and the elite class.

Obama is just a tool. You probably also know that there are those, moreso than us hick Americans, who still espouse Eugenics and, and if they had their way, would have aborted Obama long ago. Too bad Obama doesn't know that abortions really target minority people and that Margaret Sanger had that end in sight long ago. So the fact that he thinks he might not make a decision about abortion because it is above his "pay scale" only goes to prove that he hasn't done his homework, and is himself, at the mercy of someone else's agenda for him.

But hey. I am not telling you anything that you don't already know right? Cuz you are a professor of Bible and Politics and I am sure you have done YOUR homework. Right?

What is interesting to me is that a crisis has erupted just before the elections and will be a manipulating tool to drive people to continue to bleat and shuffle along just like sheep without really researching deeply the issues that affect us as Americans. Icthys. Keep on bleating. When your house falls down around you, remember this conversation. Most of all, remember that God is sovereign despite our stupidity in human affairs. I think we will really have to remind ourselves of that fact in the days to come. Come back and comment when you decide to really open your eyes instead of parroting what your read and hear in the media.

I am surprised that you don't seem to see the bias that the MSM provides almost daily in a condescending fashion towards us hick Americans that would actually vote for McCain/Palin.

There is an old adage in academia that says "where you stand is where you sit" and it applies equally well to political perceptions. Conservatives rant and rave about the "liberal bias" in the MSM while seeing no problem with the bias shown by Fox. Liberals, on the other hand, argue that the media is far too conservative (if you don't think they do try reading some of what Chomsky has to say about the MSM). It truly is a matter of degrees and you are clearly to the right of center and anything that disagrees with your position and is to your left is "liberal" even if it is to the right of center. Ditto for the left wingers. American politics can be viewed as a football game where all the action is between the 40 yard lines. The problem is that some, the extremists, want the ball in the end zone and then want the game to end. It will not end until the Lord returns so you will have to get used to being politically disappointed.

MSM provides almost daily in a condescending fashion towards us hick Americans that would actually vote for McCain/Palin.

Please post concrete examples of this condescending behavior and I will consider your argument more fully.

Do you seriously not see the MSM's tendency to slam Palin at each and every turn?

No, I see legitimate questions for a candidate who has suddenly burst onto the national scene, largely, in my view, to dangle a tantalizing carrot before certain evangelicals who had threatened to boycott the election. It worked. For the first time in recent history a large constituency is going to vote for a candidate they do not trust or like because of who his running mate is. Does that make sense to you? It seems foolhardy to me unless you think McCain is going to drop dead after the election!

you must know of course, Obama's association with Saul Alinsky as his mentor.

Of course I'm aware of this but what relevance is it? Does he call Dr. Alinsky for economic advice? Foreign policy advice? What? No, none of the above. It is a scare tactic used by the right to frighten some people. And it apparently frightened you.

that as the Dialectic Process which is utilized in society in order to bring about a predetermined outcome leading ultimately to Socialism.

So now trying to reach a consensus position amongst people who disagree is a pattern for Marxism? Obama did not say he would bring them together to reach a predetermined outcome, by the way, those are words you added to his statement. What he was talking about is something Republicans hate...bipartisanship...solving problems by using ideas from the best thinkers on both sides of the aisle.

This whole discussion of socialism is a red herring, anyway. Obama is as much a socialist as Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush. Obama would not be the wealthy man he is today if this were a socialist society. I'll make no further comment on that.

I'm not worried about my house falling down because it is built on Christ the solid rock. I don't put my faith for societal change in politicians but in God and His chosen people. When we begin to place our allegiance to our political party above our Lord's command to love one another we betray our confession. Believe it or not, you have placed politics above God in this post.

Your bitterness detracts from your argument. I pray for you that God will give you eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying. God does not care about democrats or republicans or capitalism or socialism or any of our man made -isms. He cares that WE love HIM with ALL our hearts, minds, souls, and strength. How we relate to one another in Christ is indicative of how well we are doing.

Ichtys: One thing I'd like to know is why Republicans are so full of rage and hatred these days?

2. If you do not, please apologize and retract the slander.
3. If you do neither -- have you stopped beating your wife?

Happy to respond.

All you have to do is read the comments posted on your blog, read your blog articles, read what you write at Pyro, listen to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Mike Savage, etc..., rant and rave about Obama/Biden. The use of monikers like Obamessiah, Barack Hussein Obama, labeling him as a socialist/marxist (an outright lie), calling brothers in Christ "evanjellybean creampuffs" and so on and so forth.

Your ranting and raving is driven by fear and anger that your beloved GOP has screwed up the country to such a degree that people might actually fire them (heaven forbid!). If the GOP were the CEO's of Wall Street businesses they'd probably fleece the shareholders for millions in bonuses before fleeing to an exotic island with no extradition treaty. Oh wait...it is the Republican CEO's who screwed us over! But anyway, the GOP has taken an economy that was generating a surplus and turned it into the largest deficits in history with no end in sight. The debt has risen from around 6 trillion to a cap of $11 trillion on Republican watch! 4400 brave Americans have died in a war that accomplished NOTHING except the execution of a tyrant. I'd be pissed off too if I my allegiance was to a party that didn't do a darn thing it should have in 8 years!!!

The democrats are no better, they don't deserve power. They may end up with it by default, but they haven't earned it, and that makes you mad.

Further, you think by putting a Republican in the White House, one you don't like, is going to save a single baby from being aborted? Or prevent a single homosexual from getting married? Not a chance.

The republican talking heads talk about tax increases if Obama is elected. Guess what? You're going to pay more taxes if McCain wins, too. Why? Somebody has to pay back all this irresponsible debt piled up by (mostly) conservatives. Might as well be the conservatives like yourself.

I think that what bothers me most is the smug and ugly attitude that accompanies your posts and the comments. It (and they) are not God honoring and there is absolutely nothing Christian about them. Of course, what do I know. I'm just an Obama-Apologist, right. Attack the messenger, not the message. That, after all, is the Republican way, right? He doesn't agree with me? Must be some kind of a freakin' liberal!!!

I didn't see the last SNL but I read that they actually had a skit about the possibility of incest between Todd Palin and his daughters. And I listened to the Emmy's on Sunday night, and of course there were snide comments made. The intensity of hate and bitterness in Obama's supporters seems unusual to me. "Working overtime to destroy her and get their messiah anointed" seems accurate. When Oprah, with her false religion, is so passionate about him, it makes me wonder.

The intensity of hate and bitterness in Obama's supporters seems unusual to me.

Oh come on, your example is the Hollywood elite? The vast majority of the LA whack jobs have been elite leftists since the 50's.

Oh yeah, the intensity of hate and bitterness, as you put it, is nothing close to the hatred that spewed from the mouths of Republicans toward former President Clinton. I guess one bad turn really begets another.

This polarization of our politics is downright shameful to our Lord and Savior. We are called to be peacemakers, not war mongers. We are called to be humble, not proud and arrogant. We are called to be righteous, not deceitful and deceptive. In all these things, brothers, we have failed by embracing partisanship.

DJP--Just so you are aware, you ought to check some of the liberal blogs and message boards if you think I am an Obama apologist. You'll see how staunchly I defend McCain-Palin from unwarranted and deceptive attacks from the left. Like I have said many times, I don't care who wins. What I do care about is raising the level of political conversation to one that is more edifying.

Andrew D said...

icthys, you have failed to do that.

"You are angry and hateful! I know your ill motives! Let me tell you what I see in all of your hearts!" (see Jn 7:24) This does not elevate the conversation.
Neither does making wild unsubstantiated assertions.

You mock and taunt and jeer and slander... then make yourself out to be the innocent victim who has taken the moral highground. Yes, you are but a noble messenger who has been attacked for teaching the truth in love.

What a joke!

Andrew,

You're absolutely correct, I have not honored God with some of my posts. This online forum is not a good one in which to engage in serious discussion of the issues we face as Christians. After careful thought and prayer I am convinced that my keyboard must be silenced. I shall henceforth confine my discussions to my classroom and with colleagues on campus.

I wish you nothing but the best as you seek to live out your days in service to our Lord Jesus Christ.

I do have one question: Would Jesus have believed and said what you have said? I'm not talking about who to vote for and why. Who did your comments above edify, and do they glorify your Savior?

Don't look anything beyond what I wrote; this is not a political inquisition or questioning. Take what I wrote at face value and nothing more.
