Happy personal news
To start the day right and joyous: my dear, beautiful, amazing (in many senses of the word) and only daughter, Rachael Christine Phillips, is engaged to be married! Valerie and I are very happy for them. We look forward to joining in the celebration and witness of their public exchange of vows in early January.

That's AWESOME! WOOHOO!!!
When you met the guy for the first time, did you do one of those "Son, do you like shooting things? You ever see a deer's head explode? I like shooting things and I'm pretty good good at it, too" lectures?
I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to date.
It was similar, Fred. Poor man. The famous sword hung on the wall just behind him as we had our initial chat, and karate belts on the book shelves beside him.
No pressure, though.
Speaks very well of him that he stuck it out. Seriously. He's earned, and has, my respect as well as my affection.
oh yes, I'm looking forward to doing my stern-eyed nutty lady routine when I first meet the young fellow who wants to court my daughters...
Many, many congratulations to you all.
Thanks.
And oh no you won't, Libbie. If I know you, I'd guess you'll use your sweetest voice, and "just want to ask a few questions" — and in minutes the poor bloke will feel as if he'd forgotten his trousers at home.
Congratulations!! Now I know why congress is worried about a credit crisis its that wedding coming up in January. Just kidding. Tammy and me where married in the preachers house just his wife and us. The preacher’s birthday was the day before so his birthday cake was also our wedding cake. I have 3 daughters 1 of whom has had a boy interested in her sense she met him on vacation when she 13. That’s the problem with those boys that live 500 miles away you can’t scare them off but there are a lot of advantages that come with the 500 miles.
PS thanks for avoiding the pyro blackout
Congratulations!
Warm congratulations to the bride & groom :)
Congrats! Our eldest was married a few years ago and it was a very happy day. In June they presented us with our first grandchild--happiness overload.
I'm not sure your daughter and future son in law would appreciate me introducing the idea of GRANDBABIES!!! so soon, but oh, what fun you have ahead!
Give them my congratulations and leave out the grandkid part!
heheheh
Congrats to the 'proud' father of the Bride!
My dear tender husband claims that his first comment to any suitor of our two daughters will be, "Son, I just want you to know that I'm not afraid to go BACK to prison." Whoa!! Of course he's joking!!! :-)
Hopefully our girls will consider young men with a very solid sense of humor--second only to a solid theology!!!
Oh, congratulations, you guys! How wonderful for you all!
Congratulations to you and your family, Dan.
awww that's wonderful news! Congrats Mr. Phillips! :D
I echo this. Congratulations!
Wasn't there like an old adage that, "I'm not going to allow my daughter to court until she gets married?"
Geesh, things sure have gotten loose these days.
Well if he's earned your respect Dan he must be doing something right. Great news!
Congratulations to you all! Our daughter (and oldest child) is almost 13 and my husband has told her she can date when she's 25 ;)
Would love some wise counsel on steering, particularly teenaged daughters, in the right direction when it comes to relating to the opposite gender.
I think I used to say 35, and then only if Dad can come along. That one didn't work out.
I'll take the request. Did you see this?
Ohhh, the famous "yoots" post - classic DJP goodness from start to finish....
Congratulations to you and Miss Rachael. Mawwiage to the right man is the greatest sanctifying bleesing there is.
I hadn't seen that post, Dan. Thanks so much - it is excellent and provides a wealth of wise counsel in this area that we'll definitely use as we prepare to parent into the teenage years.
I love the test-driving-all-the-cars-you-aren't-going-to-buy analogy, amongst other things.
So glad you figured out a way to leave the archives at teampyro up this month.
Congratulations, Dan. I don't know which is better: the impending marriage of your daughter (and a 6-month engagement! WOW!) or the fact that your picture makes you look great for a man with an 30yr old daughter.
My daughter is almost 2, but I'm sure those days will be here before I know it.
Math issues:
1. Well, now to January isn't quite six months
2. Oh dear, Rachael's not 30. A mere babe of just-turned-25.
But yes... I do look great.
:^D
Thanks, otherwise!
So Dan, you even managed to preserve the comments on all the old TP threads—just disable new comments. You're the man!
I figured the "30yr old" would be a nice complement, but the bad month-math--d'oh!
Seriously, though:
Congratulation.
1. Congrats, Dan, on getting a new son-in-law! And congrats to the lovely couple!
2. The moment I saw the word "mawwiage", Elmer Fudd came to mind. What a humorous image of a father wary of his daughter's suitors. (Wait, you don't really talk like Elmer in real life, do you!?)
3. Glad to see some familiar "faces" here at this blog during TeamPyro's blackout!
1. No Susan, I dont talk like Elmer Fudd. You're maybe thinking of Congressman Barney Frank.
2. "Mawwaige" is an allusion to this scene from that great movie, Princess Bride.
Congratulations!!
My daughter is 5...I can't even imagine...
What wonderful news! So good to read about genuine love in families. Encouraging it is. :-)
