Trollwatch

Anyone want to set an over/under for the next visitor with a brand-new Google account (perhaps even Profile Not Available), who says he's (or she's, this time?) a Reformed Christian who just happens to echo the day's MSM/DNC talking-points? If there's a profile, what will it be this time?

I'm not sure what their facial characteristics will be like but I'm pretty sure their spine will be a bright shade of yellow.

I'm going with someone who wanted to vote Republican, but just couldn't because of [insert MSM point - peripheral at best - here]. They will, of course, be insistent that Republican supporters "get over it," and start showing some grace, despite never having showed Bush the same.

I also want to say "ex-military," but maybe you had one of those already? I'll say... blue-collar worker.

That's a good one, Chris.

How about an "obstetrician" who doesn't love that he has to do abortions, but fears what devastation it does to women to force them to have unwanted pregnancies? Or future child abuse? Or that he has to do it because taxes aren't high enough, or something?

Or maybe he could say he (or she) voted for McCain, but regrets it now because of how divisive and negative McCain voters are, after the election?

(Do you ever wonder how many would-be trolls let out a "D'OH!" when one of their charades is pre-Fisked, like this? I do.)

DJP,

Okay... this one's touchy, but might just happen:

Someone who says she was raped (or someone close to them was raped), conceived, and chose an abortion because the child would have been a constant reminder of the assault?

What makes me hesitant to write this is the terrible emotional scars that these events have on any person, and my total unwillingness to name such a person as a troll.

Have I become mean, at this point?

I did notice one glaring omission...

My vote is for the all-wise troll(er) who pontificates from afar about all that is wrong with us backasswards American conservative Christians. This hypothetical creature spews vitriolic answers to unasked questions, but appears unwilling (or unable?) to interact civilly with the actual content of any post or comment. Antagonism and contempt are among his finer attributes.

But hey, he IS Reformed (and really bright, too), so his intentions must be pure. Any doubts? Just ask him.

The troll will regularly point out that our position is overly simplistic. The troll will also frequently use the word nuanced.

Adding to my suspicion that One Salient Oversight does not actually come back to a thread on which he's sniped. This explains both why he never seems to learn anything, and why he seems not to know that he's been banned.

As a regular observer around here, I've also noticed that the most entertaining trolls regularly wield million dollar words to mask dime store ideas.

But then I'm probably being too judgmental.

DJP said...

True enough, Buck. Sesquipedalian nonsense is still nonsense, eh?

Buck said...

Yeah, what Dan said. I had a professor of theology say that if you can't articulate or defend your position on any matter in less than 100 monosyllabic words, then you really don't understand it.

That might be gross exaggeration, but I think he was on to something.

TROLL ALERT!!!

O.S.O. so what part of "BANNED" don't you understand?

Stan, they first have to have a spine for it to be yellow.

*chuckles* That's Dan's blog motto, you know.

I'm not a troll, just a cheeky englishwoman.

Yes, dear Libbie grows impatient with anything over 100 words, unless the 101st is "Daleks."

Buck said...

Libbie, that might be a tad long for a motto. It certainly won't fit neatly on coffee mugs, t-shirts or masthead.

Perhaps something like this works better: "Biblical Christianity - Like no other."

Actually that seems to work with "cheeky englishwoman" as well.

DJP - "Sesquipedalian nonsense is still nonsense". Fair enough, but let's not forget that sesquipedalian truth is still truth. St. Paul was no stranger to elegant expression or even, God forbid, nuance, although it is certainly true that moral relativism often dresses up as nuance. Anyway I think your troll will be someone who claims to have voted Republican and claims to be reformed in theology, conservative in viewpoint and one who values life from conception forward BUT one who believes that we must submit to established authority and must support "our president." Obviously he will be someone who has not read your recent posts where you laid that point of view soundly to rest, but it is essential to the success of the liberal elite, thin on the ground as they are, that the majority of the country submit willingly to their rule.

DJP said...

Would you count yourself a sesquipedalianian?

RT said...

"Would you count yourself a sesquipedalian?"

Indubitably - and, as you know, I glory in it.

There are trolls and then there are troll trolls. They are the commentors who come in to defend certain commentors. They had a profile since ohhh, yesterday, and they post from weird public IP addresses.
