Writer secured for "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"

It's being reported that the new writer for Dawn Treader is Michael Petroni.

I'm concerned to note that nothing in his portfolio demonstrates the Australian writer's ability to do Lewis any kind of justice, to put it kindly. I've been unable to find any interviews or other insight as to his own worldview. (I've actually sat on this awhile, hoping more would come out on him — but, not yet.)

Good news, though: they're looking for a 2010 release date.

Oh joy....we get the guy who wrote Queen of The Damned....Well at least the Nightmare Island scene should be scary....lol.

I still don't see why Disney ditched the series. Yeah, Caspian wasn't HUGE at the box office, but it's better than some of the other stuff they been pushing lately...

If I understand things correctly, Doug Gresham (Lewis' stepson) is keeping an eye on things, so I'd hope he wouldn't allow things to go off base too far.

Joshua,

I liked Queen of the Damned mostly. Much better than Interview, anyway.

I hope & pray they get it right.

Oh, I really hope they do it justice. The whole dragon scene with Eustace could be either really great or really lousy. It's my fav of the series; I hope it's good.

I've never read the series so I wouldn't know if they did it justice or not (except I believe Dan will let me know here when it comes out).

2010 release date? Will anybody be able to afford to go to a movie at the present economic pace?

They found a way to do it during the 30's Aaron....lol.

Gosh, these films just seem like a no-brainer to me. They've got a built-in, ready-made audience in one of the largest & most loyal fan bases (Narnia fans). Stay true to Lewis and you'll make a fortune on these films.

Why can't they get that?

Aaron, they are an easy read and you could catch up and pass the movies in no time. It is always best to read the book before seeing the movie (I don't always, but I like it better when I do).

I actually disagree with you. I've always found that its better to read the books after the movies. If I read the book first, I tend to be disappointed in the movie. I can only recall two instances when the opposite was true (The Little Mermaid and I am Legend). Frequently movies cause me to read books I would otherwise, probably not have read. Books like the Count of Monte Cristo, the Three Muskateers, and the Last of the Mohicans.

Did anybody watch the movie, Fireproof? I'm thinking of renting it.

Duh, I did!

Ahhhh, your review came before I found this blog. I don't tend to read reviews until the rentals come out because I don't go to the movies anymore (the last time I went to the theater I lived in CA so its been about three years now).

I just finished the movie and it was pretty good. There were only a couple instances where I thought the acting was way over the top corny (the opening scene being one of them). I did think it was odd that they were married so long and hadn't had any children.

Well then, you've got a lot of catching up to do!

LOL.
