This is some funny tennis

Tennis players are amazing athletes. Here Maria Sharapova faces some folks who, well, maybe aren't so much.

I can't bring myself to reach for any Deep Point here. It's just funny.

What really cracks me up is the announcer. When I indulge in faux Japanese, I often throw in a good, hearty "Waaaaaa!"

But I thought I was making it up.

Funny stuff! Waaaaaa!

You could see her demeanor change when they first scored on her. She was also taking it easy, it was apparent that she could score whenever she wanted.

Maybe that should be this blog's rallying cry: WAAAAAAA!

(Not to be confused with "Wahhhh," the specialty of some of our beloved drive-by trolls.)

Anyone else notice that "Match Point" is spelled wrong? I must be one of "those guys..."

Oh chrish, that's too funny,

"Macth Point"!

That's gotta be a tricky situation. I think Squirrel is right - she can completely dominate the game, but this is Japan, you don't want to make anybody lose face...

She's very disarming and friendly... as she dominates the court.

Very funny.

And, Dan, once again, the boys loved it. I'm going to hear, "Waaaaugh!" all morning.

Gosh, maybe sometimes I don't consider the consequences seriously enough.

Oh, I knew the risk when I showed them the clip...

And they were actually completely distracted and re-directed by their writing assignment. I challenged them each to write a short story (in a short amount of time) using each of these words:

fuzzy, jiggle, waffle, loudly, and capybara

so any residual silliness is all my fault.

Capybara! BIG rodents _ WAAAAAAAA!

Oh, if I could only find that link to an online promo game related to the debut of "Roommania #203" (a Sega computer game made about 9 years ago). The promo game was a game in which the player had to find these microscopic little "people"[?] in this very colorful room before time runs out. Once you happen to find one of these little "people" (usually by squinting or clicking randomly because they are so tiny!), he/she/it gives this chipmunk-esque "waaaaAAAAAAAaah" cry. Once you've heard that cry you'd never forget it--I certainly haven't! (And, yes, the promo game was in Japanese!!)

Squirrel: She did look a little disgruntled when they tied the game.

These women athletes are great. Not to sidetrack too much, but raising a daughter makes me consider this. Why do all the good looking (and not so good looking ones) find it necessary to pose for magazines, pictures, etc. that intentionally feature everything but their athletic prowess? It's such a shame, really.

And did I see her sporting a cross on her necklace?

Aaron, have you seen this Sharapova commercial?

Aaron said...

No, Susan. It's a funny commerical. But what does she expect people will think of her after she does this? Hmmm????

Susan said...

Oh.

(Ahem.)

"Waaaaaaaa!" is an absolute necessity in televised Japanese sports. I learned that first with Ninja Warrior! :)

Japanese TV is like that, only moreso.
And they DO say "Ah sooooo..." all the time, too. It's insane, hard to satirise effectively, actually.
