Christian music sale

Here are a bunch of Christian music CDs for $5 each. I don't know contemporary Christian music, beyond Phil Keaggy. Are any of these worth $5?

They all look to be crud. They have Philip, Craig, and Dean the modalist heretics I notice.

Of course, I can't stand CCM in general, and I get jaded against the genre year after year.

That's probably utterly unhelpful.

I have the Jeremy Camp CD, the Shawn McDonald CD and the Kutless CD.

I don't really listen to any of them anymore. Guess that says something about them.

The Kutless CD has some good songs.

Depends...

If you want 'good music' that won't offend, a couple of them might be enjoyable. The Reliant K album is pretty fun in that regard. A couple cool lyrics in there too. ("And this life sentence that I’m serving / I admit that I’m every bit deserving / But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair.")

Both lyrically and musically, I love David Crowder. But, I have not listened to that album they list...

This depends on what type of music you like but I personally would recommend the Crowder, Camp, and definitely Shawn McDonald CD. That Kutless CD isn't too bad...Bethany Dillon is okay (married to Shane Barnard from Shane & Shane). If you are only buying one you should get Shawn McDonald...his prior CD is better..but this one is pretty good too.

Crud? Please. Most of those CDs are decent, although depending on how you listen to the music, buying songs individually might be better. I use to purchase CDs through NLT and Columbia house (sound and glory now I think). Sometimes you can get better deals than that.

I like Toby mac, Jeremy camp, outlaws, audio adrenaline, and reliant k. I mostly listen to only their top hits though.

We can't pick your musical tastes for you. I listen to christian music as a replacement for most pop music I used to listen too. But it took time to figure out who I liked and who I didn't. And different songs for different moods, etc.

What? No U2/Bono?

I don't know this latest album by Steven Curtis Chapman, but I have a lot of his other ones and they make great "working around the house needing to keep my mind filled with God-ward thoughts while scrubbing floors" music.

I'm with Aaron. There is some Christian music that is great for road trips with a friend or background music while cleaning - Toby Mac, Shai Linne, Newsboys. There is some Christian music that is really excellent for devotions or prayer time on a long commute (pretty much anything by Sovereign Grace. There is some that is really wonderful for corporate worship (see also Sovereign Grace, the Gettys).

And there is some that should bring the singers and writers and broadcasters up on charges (not going there - the list is too long :) ).

IMHO. :)

I don't listen to a whole lot of music, not that I don't like to, but I usually choose sermons. But someone gave me Come O' Weary Saints from Sovereign Grace and I absolutely love it. Is there other stuff good as well? I never heard of them before until someone gave me that CD.

Of those CDs, my favorite is "Ripen" by Shawn McDonald, & I still haven't gotten tired of it. The Jeremy Camp one disappointed me much, compared to his other stuff. B Collision (David Crowder Band) is, uh, interesting (as art). Bethany Dillon's is pleasant, but nothing to rave about.

I don't know any of the titles...but, they don't have el or las in front of them, so what do I know?

Rachael and Aaron have pretty much hit the nail on the head. Good comments there. I personally would pay $5 for tobymac, jeremy camp, relient k, and david crowder. Crowder tends to be more reformed in his lyrics from what I hear. Kutless has some good songs there too.
HeavyDLuxe listed one of my favorite all time song lyrics - "the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair." Sit and ponder that a while.
And CR, Sovereign Grace has some fantastic stuff out there. I have In A Little While by the Altrogges and it doesn't disappoint. I'm especially glad that my kids like "All I Really Need". You really can't go wrong with a lot of their stuff.

If you look up the albums on Amazon, they'll generally have short (~15 second) samples of all the songs. Or you can look up the artists on youtube, a lot will have their own videos, or people will have made slideshows with their songs as background music.

I don't have any of those albums. I have a few old ones by Chapman which I like, and some songs I've heard from others seem at least OK (Camp, Kutless). I tend to find myself liking David Crowder more than I admit. I think I've given a Jump5 CD as a gag gift before. At the very least, it makes a great coaster.

Mesa Mike, check the next-to-last album.

The song listings there have a sample link, but its a Real Audio file. Who uses Real Audio anymore? I kinda figured that format was dead.

My wife still has an old chapman cd I her alarm clock radio. My daughter loves to turn it on and dance to it. Pretty fun stuff. But the titles listed for 5 dollars range pretty wide in
musical style.

Cr: I try to listen to sermons/talk radio in the car too. But sometimes I just need some music. It has a calming effect. I also find that music helps me concentrate.

I noticed I referenced "outlaws" earlier. I meant kutlass but my iPhone auto corrected it and obviously I didn't catch it.

Not to make anyone jealous, but I'm going to Sovereign Grace next week for Worship God 2009 seminar ... Getty's will be there as well as the Altrogge's and John Piper, though I hope he doesn't sing.

I consider their music worship worthy. Not all Christian music is, but that doesn't mean that it's not entertainment worthy.

JackW,
I am a little jealous. I think you're right on about worship, music, and entertainment. You said what I thought about saying but couldn't quite find the right wording for. Thanks.
My word verification has the prefix pyro. Spooky.

CR and all:

I heartily recommend Sovereign Grace Ministries music, especially the Valley of Vision CD, with songs inspired by the book of Puritan prayers, and the Songs for the Cross Centered Life CD, with songs inspired by CJ Mahaney's book "The Cross Centered Life".

Solid, reformed lyrics set to a variety of contemporary musical styles. Very reasonably priced too! Samples of each song are available at the above links. My wife, son and I absolutely love both of these!
