Have you been bad? Do you need to be punished?

This should just about do the trick.

Hey look, they can't all be masterpieces.

If you bail — and you should! — just think about this.

As your dutiful host, I had to listen to the whole thing.

THE. WHOLE. THING.

I don't understand. Why would anyone want to bail on that masterpiece? His rendition of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds has been getting a lot of play today, and it's also brilliant.

I watched it all the way through. The real pay-off comes around the 4 minute mark. Classic!

You guys are scaring me.

I. Can't. Believe. Iwatchednearlytwominutesworth.

I might not be blogging much, but at least I'm not inflicting. Blimey.

Rough crowd.

Well, given that our government seems hell-bent on hurtling us all back to the unbearable decade from whence this came, somebody should hack into the White House website and make this play every time you click on the O logo. It would fit perfectly.

I'll let you off, the acapella business was good ;)

I thought maybe the payoff would be an unfortunate incident when the cigarette burned to the end of his finger. Amazingly, it lasted a long, long time. The payoff was that this video finally solved the mystery of what that blastedline is:

"burning out his fuse out here alone"

I always thought it was:

"burning all the tears of heav'n alone"

I don't speak British very well : )

KissThisGuy has a whole archive of possible alternatives for this line including:

...burning out in New York, hair is long

...burning up like cheese and pheromone

...Burning out the feuds on my way home.

...burning down bridges of Avalon

...running out of shoes. Oh, well, so long

...burning up the trees on every lawn

...burning up the streets of Babylon

...running out of fuel and I'm heading home

(my 15-yo DS does NOT understand why his nutty mother was ROTFLOL at this bizarro video....I tried to explain that Shatner was a very serious actor, not prone to parody...but the absurdity was lost on him)

Wow. Ed Wood is beginning to look talented.

Are you kidding? This is one of the greatest things ever made by mankind!

What is seen, cannot be unseen. Maybe I'll watch later.

I bailed even more quickly than CR--I came to the comments section right after he said, "I miss my wife." (Sorry--I would've watched the whole thing just to see how it would play out, but gtg right now.)

Kirk: You've said before a little suffering is good for the soul.

McCoy: I never said that.

(Wait...Dan, did you accidentally delete my comment, or did I forget to save it??)

(See? If you didn't use comment moderation, I would be able to answer this question myself immediately....)

Um. Oh. I mean...

Profound.
Intense.
Truly masterful.

@Susan:

Satisfaction guaranteed, or double your money back!

;-)

All the same, if a certain person hadn't forced Dan to escort him off the premises, and then hadn't pathologically refused to accept the consequences of his own behavior, the rest of us wouldn't be dealing with moderation.

Common People by Bill Shatner is one of hte best songs of the 2000s.

Susan,

Blogger's been eating my comments too...

@3GD and Rachael--

How funny...I just found my first comment (not very important) nestled between Paula's comment and 3GD's comment. I don't think it was there before...was it?

What's even weirder, look at Paula's comment right above mine and then keep counting backwards: CR, Brian, jmb--and there's Paula again, with the exact same comment!

(And I thought my day at work was weird....)

(Oh, let me jot down the time right now, lest Blogger decides to return to normal: 5:53 p.m.)
