What th - - ?

I was on Facebook the other day, doing something on the page that listed out Suggestions as to who I could be "friends" with.

I noticed this:

Huh?

What's creepy is that evidently one of my "friends" is "friends" with The Hinnster. A mole?

I was tempted to be"friend" Hinn, take a screen shot of "Dan Phillips and Benny Hinn are now friends," and put it up on some Hither and Thither. It would make Adrian Warnock's day. Then I could just unfriend him.

Hinn, I mean.

But then I realized Hinn would have to accept me as a friend. The thought of being rejected by Benny Hinn....

I think things are fine as they are.

You know what Dan, I don't do Facebook. But if I did, I would use it as evangelistic tool. If some quack or some liberal wants to invite you has a friend, I know if I were in your shoes, I would do it because I would be thinking evangelistically (probably not a word).

Ahhhh, the angst of social networking....

The Problem with Hinn isn't so much with Hinn..it's clear he's a nutcase....it's the countless others who want to profit from the gospel just like him!!! The commercialized "Jesus" gospel pckgd in that "Hotline to God" sort of way (subscriptions paid weekly). I'm totally with you Dan. I just wish you'd do another Xpose' on Steve Brown's "Antinomian Jesus"....similar stuff, but a whole lot more subtle. A Jesus we could all come to love, but never take seriously, all Love and Grace, without "any" Holiness or wrath for sin....Steve offers "3 free sins" and a Jesus who "loves" but "doesn't discipline". Loved your article from a few years ago, right on!!!

Note to CR....Benny Hinn already knows he's a quack...and Jesus knows that Benny Hinn is a "false prophet". So should true Christians. Christians are told not to throw Pearls before Swine. To not even associate with someone like this. Good Job Dan, it's about time Christians grew some @#$%^ and called a spade a spade. : )) Btw....It would be foolish for Dan to even "try" reaching out to this fool. Only a fool would consider doing so. Right on Dan!!!

CR,
You are right, Facebook is a great evangelistic tool (evangelistically is a good word, BTW). Just this past week a friend who comes from a works oriented background put up a well-written note explaining why water baptism doesn't save a person. He had over a 150 comments (many very, very long), most from relatives who live far from him, most opposed and they are still coming. He has been convicted to address this for a while and facebook gave him the format he needed. It is a good way to reach folks you would not normally see in your day to day comings and goings.

Dan,
12 notes in your inbox? Talk about Mr. Popular!

Just don't let him use his force powers on you. You could get hurt.

I didn't quite have in mind Brian DJP asking or accepting Hinn as a friend but maybe others that are associated with him that perhaps have known DJP in the past or read his blog that ask him to be a friend.

1. I think Benny Hinn will be waaayy too busy making sick ppl. fall backwards than to answer Facebook friend requests--unless he decided to hire some staffers to manage his Facebook accounts (tax write-off?) <\sarcasm>

2. On a more serious note: Facebook does some pretty wacky things. Just the other day one of my long-outstanding friend requests was answered by a friend when he finally signed on after weeks of not signing into his account. The next thing I knew, I got an email saying that two of my existing friends had taken MY suggestion to add that first guy as a friend. Well, I think you can guess what the problem is: I NEVER made that suggestion (even though I wouldn't have had any problems doing so). So maybe that Hinn suggestion you got was also just a FB fluke....

...which, of course, still doesn't answer the nagging question, "Which one of your FB friends is a Hinn mole??" (Of course, you could always waste time and try to go through your friends' friends lists, but I can't see you doing that for fun.) :)

The Benny Hinn suggestion was interesting, but what really got my attention was that you had 12 messages in your inbox.

"Dan Phillips and Benny Hinn are now friends"

That would just be scary.

There's something about the way we facebook users have signed onto the whole "be my friend" and "I'm not going to be your friend anymore" thing that seems disturbingly regressive/infantile to me. :)

DJP,

It's a slippery slope, accepting Hinn as a friend on Facebook.

Next thing you'll be accepting Hinn into your life. You'll have meaning, joy, and a new jet.

Mike Westfall said...

Well you shoulda clicked on him anyway just so you could see who the "mutual friend" was.

trogdor said...

You should be his Facebook friend when God audibly tells you to.

DJP said...

It doesn't show.

It does say, "Benny only shares certain information with everyone."

That's certainly true.

Michelle said...

To find the mystery mutual friend, just scroll down all your friends' friend lists until you spot Benny.

DJP said...

All 305789 of them?

I'll get right on that.

That's why FB is so slow. Your friends list is using up all the bandwidth.

Every time someone mentions Benny Hinn I start playing crazy music in my head and imagine people chasing each other around the room at accelerated speeds... then my wife reminds me, "No, that's Benny Hill."

I guess I really don't see a difference between the two. ;-)

DJP said...

One makes a spectacle of himself by acting ridiculously, embarrassingly and shamefully.

The other was a comedian.

Ziiing! Nice.
