UPDATE II: okay, I searched and fiddled.
Embed their code, it works once, then fails. See new link below
Do women watch those knife-segments on channels like QVC, where you can get 275 knives for $79.99 (plus $300 shipping and handling)? I like it, but I'm a guy. I don't see my dear wife stopping mid-stride and saying "Wow, what a cool sword!"
Maybe it's just a guy-thing.
If so, this won't appeal to a significant segment of my readers. But I think it's cool, and... Hel-lo? Blog!
The embed code from CBS doesn't work. Try this link — sorry about any other images on the site. Full-screen the picture.

I love that infomercial. I don't really have $80 to spare right now, and if I did I am pretty sure that 275 knives lying around the house would be the undoing my wife's generally good-nature (we have a pretty small house). I have buddies with whole rooms of their house dedicated to guns, and knives, and outdoor "trophies." The command not to covet starts to apply to my heart...um, yeah.
Pretty sure the broken link is not your fault. I can't even load the video via the direct link on either Firefox or IE.
I can't see the video either, but yes, I'd say knives are definitely a guy thing.
I asked my wife for a new Leatherman for Christmas and the response was 'but you already have one of those.' Of course, I came back with the very logical 'but this one's different and cooler' in response :)
But, honestly, the 275 knives for $80 just doesn't sound appealing ... I can't see trusting any tool I paid 30 cents for.
Yeah, but they're quality items from Frost Cutlery!
Oh, I didn't realize that :)
You know, just like with anything else, you get what you pay for. A knife has to be of good quality or it isn't much good.
I got a stainless steel sword from Frost Cutlery once. It didn't stand up to rigorous use, unfortunately. I guess you have to bite the bullet and get folded steel or something to get a really good sword for...erm..."reenactment."
Having worked at Williams-Sonoma I can say that I do appreciate good quality knives. I actually asked for some new kitchen knives for Christmas last year :-) And I bought my husband a Gerber tool years ago...he uses it to fix things around the house, so it benefits me ;-)
I can't see the video, either, but I do like sharp knives for cooking. A good knife makes a huge difference. The last knife I bought was almost $100, but it was only one knife. I don't know as if the knives one sees on an infomercial are necessarily a good deal.
At my Phil's company, there are so many foodies in his group that the joke was that "What kind of knives do you use" needed to be an interview question. Global or Forscher would put you through to the next interview round. Frost Cutlery? Notsomuch. :)
My husband's favorite is this really big Forschner. He loves it because Forschner is the company which had OJ Simpson as one of its directors. I know, muy morbid. :)
I can't verify at work.
What? You do stuff other than this? We don't pay you enough. It's criminal.
Oooooooh.
Watched it. Loved it. Thought I'd found the perfect present for Phil.
Until I saw the prices.
Sheesh.
Maybe he makes nail clippers too? I could prolly afford those.
Seconding Rachael's comment. $300 per inch?! Mr. Kramer is obviously very skilled and talented, but...zounds.
More power to him. Wish I could afford one.
Hey, wait! It isn't fair that I can't afford one while others can. I guess I'll just have to raise your taxes a bit to address this vital issue. I'm sure you'll understand.
Those informercials RULE!! They are the only ones aside from tools and Billy Mays that can actually make me stop and watch! :)
Love that video.
I'd love one of his knives too...but at $300/inch...
Actually, I think I'd be happy just to get a chance to hold and/or use one for a minute.
