That little number was called Devil's Trill Sonata, and both the story behind its composition (and thus the composer) are pretty messed-up.
Now as an extra treat, the same lady in a very different mood, with the incomparable Victor Borga. This is a favorite of Phil Johnson's, which is how I came to know of it.

My DAOD was a very good recorder artist, though she was not a recording artist. We did a couple of guitar/recorder duets, but nothing like this.
I adore Victor Borge. Had the privilege of seeing him perform live when I was a young girl, and our family laughed till our sides ached and clapped till our hands were raw. And in a note (ha ha!) of good timing, my kids are in a music club that is learning to play the recorder. We start our spring session up on Friday...and do I ever have the video to inspire them now! :) Thanks for sharing these, Dan.
I've never seen a 20-string guitar before! Well, I guess it's actually a lute of some sort.
Also, I never suspected that such beautiful music could come from a toy flute. I don't suppose she plays the one that you can get at Wal-Mart for $5.99, though.
Hmm, to have the devil come into one's dream and to be asked to be his servant--what does that tell me about the composer?? Would he be one of those (anachronistically speaking) who would have encounters with UFOs today?? (I say that because I've heard from a radio interview that people who encounter UFOs usually have had experiences with the occult in the past.) Just a thought.
I graduated from flutophone in the fourth grade to private recorder lessons all through sixth grade. I totally thought it was cool when I saw Grace Slick with one on the cover of a Jefferson Airplane album. Alas and alack, I gave up my lessons and learned how to play the piano. I sure wish I could have kept on after watching this video.
