Really? Is anyone that dumb? Everyone knows the first step in a properly executed de-icing is to start the car and get some defroster action going. Duh!

When I lived in southern Calif, on those few days when the windshield was frozen over I'd just toss a pot of hot water over the window and all was good. I quickly learned that that is not a good tactic here in northern New Mexico. Oh, it gets your windshield de-iced all right, but the water then runs down onto your driveway where it immediately freezes up again and doesn't melt until spring.

LOL! Very funny!

Yep, been there/done that.

I used to go out and do it in my bare hands. Silly me. Of course I used to run 30 yards barefoot through the snow to get my mail from the roadside box...

Hot water is NOT a good idea! My husband cracked our windshield doing that. Arrgghh.

Bless his heart. I winced when he fell.

I pray that I never own another car without remote start, and heated seats. (Al-Qaeda probably uses folks like me in anti-American propaganda.)

Not me... I'm way to smart to live in a state with that kind of weather...

Oh... wait a minute... we just elected Jerry Brown... for the second time...

Never mind. ;-)

Yep, RC; people in our state couldn't be trusted with real weather.

This clueless SoCal resident asks: But why did you ice your car in the first place??

Bruce, being from NH, can totally relate to this. I used to get off work at midnight and have to go through this whole ritual when I lived there also. Chip, chip, chipping away at ice.
