It's funny: sometimes ideas and material just gushes like a geyser, and you can barely keep up. Other times... not so much. I have about six half-ideas and a few started posts I can't finish yet.
So... sorry about my lameness.
Hey, I know: Open Mike!

Hi Dan, can I trouble you for your opinion on each of the 39 Articles of Religion?
Thanks!
Which ones?
Oh. It happens to me all the time.
Some of it is due to the appropriate timing of what I want to say,
Some due to how well I can articulate what I want to say,
Most of it is due to not being able to sit down and write.
I am glad one of my blogging heroes can be lame like me.
Hey Dan,
Maybe you can work up an open letter to one of the "Reformed Charismatics" about all of the cover they provide to people like Benny Hinn, Todd Bentley, etc. I'm sure you would get a few responses. I just read Chapter 9 of The Institutes last night and Calvin really worked over people who believed in experience/revelation in lieu of Scripture.
I am here to do your bidding, master.
Can we talk about the Australian Open and/or Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters?
Oh, does it need to reference biblical christianty?
I'm open to discussing their spiritual opinions based on what they've said in press conferences and public forums. Of course, we could also discuss their athletic performances and how that influences their belief systems.
You did say open mike. :)
(I now feel heads turning in my direction as if I am from a different planet)
Actually, Kris, you can go there if you like. I do that with this blog. It's that eclectic thing. Just try to bring it around within a Christian worldview.
(See if it's as easy as it looks.)
(c:
You don't need any content.
After all, "The medium is the message," as McLuhan wrote way back in '64.
Did any of y'all hear that Joel Osteen actually said that homosexuality is a sin on TV? Of course, he followed that up by saying that he doesn't "believe it is God's best for a person's life." I was going to send this link to you for H&T...but why not put it here:
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/26/osteen-gets-serious-on-sex-prosperity-and-politics/?hpt=C2
He gets into talk of how he is not part of the prosperity gospel crowd, too. Not sure how he lines that up with what he teaches...
*raises hand*
I gotsa a bibly question!
Has anyone used the Kenneth Wuest commentaries on the NT? I just started teaching myself Greek so I can't comment on any of his translation. However, I get the distinct impression when he's explaining a Greek word he reads an English definition back into the original Greek.
I need some expert advice as I just can't shake that nagging thought.
I'm just impressed you guys can write multiple posts a week. I can barely get one out a month. Yeesh.
Y'know I once heard the late author, Tony Hillerman say that the four letter definition of writer's block is L-A-Z-Y.
I'm just sayin'
Not sure the comparison between a full-time author and somebody posting on a blog is a valid one. It isn't like these guys just sit around and work on their blog all the time. It's easy to leave drive-by comments, though 8o)
Just sayin'
Robert,
I didn't know that Joel Osteen never went to seminary. Why would you want someone in such a role who wasn't prepared for it? Sounds like he didn't even graduate college (http://getstarted.wordpress.com/2007/08/31/prosperity-preachers-academics-and-fence-sitters/)
I liked his attempt at the end to get away from the prosperity gospel thing...."I don't believe in that. I'm all about 'how you can excel'." Hrmph. I'm not sure he knows the difference, sitting in his thousand-dollar suit.
It was great not having to look at Nancy Pelosi during the SOTU. Biden is weird, he smiles with a frown in his face.
What do you think of Robert Alter's Book of Psalms? I saw it highly recommended over at Remonstrans and was wondering if you have an opinion to offer on it.
@Scooter - it's called an anachronism, imposing meaning not in accord with the usage at the time. A classic is the word poiema in Eph. 2:10, "We are His poiema (Eng., "workmanship")...". The word has to do with something fashioned, made, or crafted - usually out of something else, like out of a dead person (cf. vv. 1-2). We are not His "POEM".
I linked an article by Free Republic where Gov. Abercrombie, democrat, from Hawaii and long time family friend of Obama said there are no records of Obama's birth in Hawaii. A troublemaker commented (of which I deleted) said all it takes for a lie to become true is to put it on the Internet. I thought to myself - like the Lewinsky scandal?
I'm not saying Obama is or is not natural born. I don't know. I'm just saying what Obama's friend has reported to say.
I would just like to take advantage of this open mike opportunity to say that my Grandson is cuter than yours … but not by much.
;-)
Cuter?
Unlikely.
CR,
I laughed when you mentioned dropping r's in your profile. My aunt was from Connecticut and she never lost that accent. Our last name is Hartford, and she would pronounce it "Hatfud". I always thought "No, *I'm* a Hartford. You're something else."
I think it's kind of an "ebb and flow" of life thing. Frank seems to be on a roll hitting some kind of sweet spot.
Now on to Frank's open letter to Horton and 1 of your comments in the Meta.
I can't remember exactly and don't have the time to peruse all 98,678 comments but you said something along the lines of "how can people so right be so wrong..." and a whole examination of that phenomenon.
Anyway: I get perplexed about the same thing. One wonders with one Bible say, for example: pedo-baptism. I like James Boyce - always have. But his eschatology and modal?
Do I need to go on?
Tease: if you are really thinking about an article(s) on that I have the seedling of an answer...
PS - remember: open mike.
22!
Celebrity Journalist says he misspoke when he says governor told him about no Obama certificate. Either he's an idiot or he's dishonest.
"nothing" isn't the same as "nothin'" -- apparently...
Tap, tap "is this thing on?
There's been a glaring lack of grandson pics lately ;D
U-m-m...
U-h-h...
Well...
U-m-m-m...
U-h-h-h-h....
Man, I got nothing either!
No, wait.
Word verification - denai :)
Robert: now that I've seen that Osteen video... eesh! What a mealy-mouthed namby-pamby. "Oh, please, like me!" Gahh.
I wonder if this is how Quakers blog: just open a thread and wait for the spirit to move them. Would that make us "The Religious Society of Dan's Friends"?
Scooter, Wuest is not well-regarded by modern Greek pro's. Both as to some points of grammar, and how he handles the meanings of words, his commentaries would have to be used with a lot of discretion by someone who actually knows Greek. If you don't know Greek, you've no way to use discretion. Know what I mean?
Sam...
I like it.
More haikus, please. :)
Haikus! I'd forgotten.
For newcomers:
Cat haiku
Obama haiku
Thanks Dan, I'm picking up what you're throwing down. Wuest is referenced quite often in a weekly Bible study I attend. More often than not his explanations of words rubbed me the wrong way, but I had no hard evidence why that was.
Dan is eclectic
Hither and thither is proof
Nothing beats bacon
When I read Frank's post I just want to be a fresh little kid again when I just believed and didn't have to think about grammar. Whew. (yes, the good old days).
How do I put a pop-up Bible verse into text on one of these "blog" things? I see you smart people doing it all the time, but all I can manage is to furrow my brow in a vain attempt to understand the situation.
I was going to post a not-so-transparent lead in to a topic on which I've blogged and then drop in a link with an oh-by-the-way request for you to "check it out," but then I realized, I haven't actually posted anything in months, so, yeah.
Chris, I think you're looking for this.
Dan's post has nothing.
Epic Fail or For the Win?
Only time will tell.
And for you haiku purists, a little something about "nature":
Lithe leaves clip the cat
That prances its paws across
The august asphalt.
"I got nothing"
That’s what you get for doubling up on HT last week!
That’ll teach ya. ;-)
Also… I noticed the 22! ribbing from Frank. How cold… heartless… ruthless can someone be, kicking a guy while he’s down.
I feel like defending you Dan by making some comparison between your blog and his (not Pyro) but it’s not fair to him considering his postings on that blog are only monthly, or is it seasonal. ;-).
Alright… last one.
Where is that microphone?
How about a run down comedy club in Kenya.
When?
How about a few months after the 2012 Presidential election.
Who’s the comedian trying his jokes on the crowd?
“Good evening ladies and gentleman, my name is Barrack Hussein Obama, I used to be…”
Hey, I realize it’s a little past MLK day, but I can still have a dream. ;-)

Some random thoughts while I wait for my son to finish piano lessons:
1. I'm impressed that you got Turk to comment here! I understand he's a busy guy with lots of offers for coffee and "a tawk."
2. Which thing is NOT like the others: Christians, Hindi, Muslims, Jews, and Gays? (if you know the answer, please inform our President, so he can keep the military straight. Pun intended.)
3. I wonder why the abortion issue doesn't bring up the fact that most women DO have a choice, whether to share their bed or not, and I venture to guess that the lions share of abortions are not done for women who were unaware of the consequences.
4.We just got a foot of snow here in PA.
5. I love snow.
6. DJP, who are your favorite authors, and what are your favorite all-time books (non-fiction)?
7. Piano lesson is over.
Love the haiku, Scooter! Well balanced, on topic, good imagery, makes total sense!! :D
now about bacon...i was going to mention last H&T...mr.phillips...as a doctor...i do NOT approve your love for bacon...AND I think you should put a "the excess of fatty foods can lead to heart disease" everytime you add those bacon infested pictures of fatty goods.. :P
there my 2 cents..
not that i don't love bacon, i do just not too much of it ;)
I, for one, find the tone of the comments to this post to be most disturbing and uncharitable. I would hope we would all hold ourselves to a higher standard.
Etc.
Dr. Rita: the funny thing is that I literally eat bacon maybe, I don't know, 5-10 times in an entire year? It's just become a fun meme in this blog.
I, for one, find the tone of the comments to this post to be most disturbing and uncharitable.
Yeah, well, you have no business criticizing anything I say until you've read every word I've ever written. So there.
;-)
And so far nobody's individually taken me out to coffee to talk to me about anything.
Just sayin'.
ahh well in that case! nevermind then ;)
hey! speaking of spanish, although not on this thread, my word verification is "mismo"! :D
