Monday music: "Bob," by "Weird Al" Yankovic

And now, for something a little less serious, thanks to a tip from Sue...

Get it? (Youngsters may need at least a glance at THIS for context)

Boy, am I a youngster...

The best thing about this song is that all the lyrics are palindromes.

Weird Al WIN!!!

Virtually all of Weird Al's music is either direct parody or homage to a particular genre or artist -- all in good fun. I've been a fan since "Eat It" and I own almost all his albums. His is the only "secular" music I listen to anymore, and he has amazingly become increasingly clever with each new album.

This song falls into the 'homage' category, and I think he pretty much musically nails Bob Dylan's style (with a clever stylistical nod to INXS in the video).

Making all the lyrics palindromes (including the song's title) just adds a layer to the silliness.

Good stuff. Thanks, DJP.

... and I realize now that INXS was just copying Dylan, now that I've watched the context video.

His parody (song only, no video) on Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" left me in stitches. It was SUCH an improvement of the original song! (His song is called "Perform This Way". I don't remember if there was any risque lyrics in there, but it was nowhere near Lady Gaga's controversy...and it was so hilarious that Lady Gaga personally approved it.)

And Mike W., lol!

He uses the phrase "bite me" once, and he asked "who cut the cheese?" (in french). That's about as bad as it gets.

Best lyric:

"I'll bet you've never seen a skirt steak worn this way"

That was amazing. Way better than Dylan, especially because of the palindromes. The man is a genius.

I haven't heard Weird Al in such a long time, but this was a fantastic break from spreadsheets :)

I really don't know what is so great about Dylan; I could only get through about 15 seconds of the reference, which was enough time to realize that Weird Al is so much more talented.

And apparently, I'm a youngster...even though I keep thinking that I'm only 10 years away from my life being (most-likely) half-over.

Would having done a lot of drugs in my younger days help me "get" Dylan? Because obviously I'm missing something.

Weird Al is MUCH more clever. Layers, and layers more clever.

@S. Dreisner: That "skirt steak" line was one of my favorites! And so typical of Weird Al to come up with something so stellar. :)

Very late to this party, so maybe DJP is the only one who will read this...

I had to click through to YouTube to watch it and in the sidebar it showed the same video with the title "Google Instant with Bob Dylan"

I didn't catch that they were palindromes, so I watched the entire thing thinking those were all Google Instant results. I found myself thinking, "I think I searched for that one time. Hey! That might have been mine!"

Try watching it that way - it's hilarious!
