Humor: How different sects see each other

This is reproduced in many places, but I think this is the original source. I found it, then a number of readers kindly pointed it out as well.

Seeing the title, I expected to think it was simplistic, stupid and sneery. But actually, it's pretty funny.

I had a hard time trying to pick which picture I found the funniest, although the look on the baby's face is pretty good...as is the look on the face of the guy drinking the beer and the charismatic guy with the crosseyed look in glasses, straightjacket, and colander hat. Thanks for the laugh!

How did they get Todd Friel into the straight jacket?

That's hilarious! Someone put a lot of time and thought (and cheek!) into that. I read through the entire grid twice: first column by column, then row by row. It was that good.

I thought it was pretty clever as well. I went to an unaffiliated Christian high school which included students from every one of these groups. This brought back a lot of fun memories. :)

Dan:

Actually, that site you linked to—St. Thomas the Doubter Church—is quite remarkable. They also have an interesting perspective on "doubt": not doubting the truths of Scripture, but doubting the illusory and transitory values of the world (according to their "About Us" page).

Some of their blog posts are sung/spoken passages of Scripture: I'm listening to Psalm 78 right now, with spoken verses, acoustic guitar, and chorus. And some of their cartoons are quite thoughtful and thought-provoking. Their website is definitely worth poking around.

Uhm...I found it pretty accurate.

Very funny -- and almost weird-in-a-cosmic-way how accurate the "seen by liberals" and "seen by reformed" lines are.

Still laughing... :) Thanks Dan.

Dan what is your opinion on the protests that are going on in different parts of the US?? I know this is off topic sorry :P

DJP said...

Worse, off my radar-screen. What are you referring to? What do you think of them, Doc?

Moon said...

ahhh yes the liberals the true leaders of social justice...the mother calcuttas of this age...right.. :P

Saw this on Freerepublic a few days ago.

There's probably not enough big-O Orthodox on the US-ian scene for us Americans to have a preconcieved notion about them. Just a guess.

Romanists view charismatics as a Jackson Pollack painting? Why? The fundamental claims are pretty similar.

I hate to be the guy who didn't get it, but what does the Reformed as seen by Liberals picture signify? That we are debaters?

DJP said...

Yeah, JD; I think uptight white guys who do nothing but argue.

Which Bollywood film is "Charismatics as seen by Evangelicals" taken from?

@Lee: Agreed, about Eastern Orthodox Christians. But I was discussing this on Facebook with the mother of a friend of mine--she's married to an Orthodox archpriest here in the US.

The column for how various Christians see the Orthodox could be filled out either with question marks, or with the same picture of a priest in full vestments lighting incense. (Maybe the Catholic view of them would be something with a "rebel" theme. Like the Rebel Alliance from Star Wars.)

Then the row for how the Orthodox see the others could be filled with the same picture of squabbling toddlers--except for how they see the Catholics, which would be a picture of Emperor Palpatine in a pope hat.

That. Is. Hilarious.

@Tom, I'm not sure, but if you've never watched "Bride and Prejudice", I'd really recommend it. It's a British Bollywood reinterpretation of Pride and Prejudice. It'll make you want to take lessons. :)

@JD - or Mormies ;)

And I will now fold laundry repeatedly saying "Emperor Palpatine in a pointy pope hat" and snickering.

On second thought, the picture for how the Reformed see the Orthodox would be something like this:

Jugulum:

Based on my limited knowledge of things Eastern Orthodox, you're probably not too far off the mark.

My impression is that of a non-papist eastern style of Catholicism, with a more fully developed mysticist (if that's a word) theology. Mariolatry, for one, is definitely a big deal on both sides of the Adriatic divide.

(On the other hand, I suppose that the Orthodox would say that Catholicism is a papist, western version of Orthodoxy....)
