Charismaticism and Biblical faith: a study in contrasts

Charismaticism: I heard there's a real move of the Holy Spirit in {some other location than here}! Come on, let's run over there and see if we can get in on it!

Biblical faith: I read that God the Father poured out His Spirit richly on all who are in Christ, blessing them with all spiritual blessings in Him! I read that the Spirit gave the words to the apostles that will unfold those truths and lead me into fellowship with the Father and the Son! I believe what I read, and run to Christ!

What? Do you mean to teach the sufficiency of the written Scriptures? ;-)

But, my senses couldn't possibly be deceived. "The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit..."

Boy that sounds dull... :-(

"The days of special visions, voices and prophesyings have passed away, but we can still say with Peter, 'We have a more sure word of prophecy.'" CHS

The more I read the more I think Spurgeon is like Seinfeld (tv series). There's not a conversation you can't somehow work him into. Thanks KJA.

...though, unlike Seinfeld, working in CHS always elevates the conversation.

Reading this and recalling your Fbook post re: Todd Bentley, I'm reminded of a quote I have affixed to my desk from someone (sorry, don't know the original author) who was writing during the time of Mr. Bentley's craziness in Florida: "Would they be flocking to Florida if the only promises were freedom from sin and walking in righteousness?" Think not.

Charismaticism seems to forget that God is omnipresent. It's like that run around going, "God found a weak spot in space-time. Gas up the RV!"

I finally found my title! "Elevator Operator!"
