First-ever BibChr BOOK GIVEAWAY!!!

Per a suggestion from my BSIL:

Within the next week or two (more or less) I expect this blog to cross the milestone of one million visitors. So it seems like a nice little "plus" to offer one advance copy (!!!) of The World-Tilting Gospel to the 1,000,000th visitor, if possible. Here's how I'll do it. One copy goes out to the one person who:
  1. Comes nearest to being the 1000000th visitor (number 1000000 or greater); and
  2. Proves it by emailing me an honest, un-tricksy, undoctored screen shot of the visitor count from my right column — within 12 hours of hitting the target. (Of course, if someone nails 1000000 exactly, the contest is over.)
With your email, include full name and shipping info, please.

ALSO include:
  1. Would you like me to autograph it? And, if so...
  2. Would you prefer your autograph right-side up, or "tilted"?
There... was that worth the caps and the three exclamation-points?

I will announce when we have a winner.

And in case you need it: how to take a screenshot.

You have a book coming out? ;-D

DJP said...

That's the rumor. I hope it's true!

I think you should offer to autograph it while tilted myself. And you could post a picture of that on here...that would be fitting for a celebration of 1,000,000 visitors.

awww i still haven't bought it but i want to buy but i want mine autographed!! :'(

DJP said...

Robert: any picture of me is a picture of a significantly tilted man.

OK, so in the spirit of the way some visitors to your site engage with your other posts...did you just say that you'll give me a free book if I simply send you my email address?

I don't mean to offend, I'm asking honestly.

Then I'll tell you my real agenda later.

In a passive agressive way.

And then be wounded when you rebuff me.

For not reading the entire post.

DJP said...

Yeah, no.

It's kind of readers to offer themselves as canon fodder for the instruction of others.

Why is there no 'like' button on Blogger?

In all seriousness, congratulations on the book Dan, long and well-deserved. I'll be getting a copy as soon as its available in the UK. previwed some of it on Amazon last night and it looks great.

May God use it to re-tilt many worldviews.

From my heart, (A) thank you, and (B) may God hear and grant your final wish/prayer. It is mine as well.

Looks like my day is set. Throw off my paper I need to write and hit Command + R (or F5 for the Windows users) until success!

If you want to cheat, to get a book about the Gospel....

how does one do a "screen shot"?

Robert said...

Maybe the cheating shows how much one needs the Gospel to tilt their world?

I've updated the post with a link to a screenshot tutorial.

Okay okay, it may be more than a week! No idea. I just didn't want to wake up one morning and be forced to say "Oh, rats -- too late!"

Cluster map shows you have the second most hits from Texas!

I'm guessing I'm not going to win, since the institutional network nannies think that there is something dangerous about accessing -- and thus have scrubbed -- your site meter visitor count.

Waaaaiiiitaminit - Amazon has finally posted the page previews????

No exaggeration - I read them all and got downright teary, like I do when one of my kids done real good. I was expecting it to be great, but wasn't quite sure in what way or to what extent.

I can think of about 75 people at my church who need to read this book, especially the yoots.

August 1 needs to get here faster.

Susan said...

I really should enlist the help of one of my friends for this. It's not even funny how "lucky" she can get in terms of winning radio contests and getting big prizes! :)

Susan said...

Rachael--the previews have been there for a while now. Are you referring to something else??

DJP said...

Susan - she's a friend, and she's not already a BibChr reader? What's up with that?

Rachael Starke said...

Susan - I don't think so. I just pre-ordered it the week it became available, and at that time they weren't there. Anyway, soon enough I'l have the whole thing.

And all that will do is make me reaallllly want that big huge Proverbs book, too - 372 pages of footnotes and all. ;)

DJP said...

The books are really quite different.

Same author, though.

Rachael Starke said...

:) I'm assuming so - likely more scholarly? I'm totally good with that (she said in a nonscholarly way :) ). I'm still hauling my way through Charles Bridges and am benefiting. But I have a feeling I'll benefit more from yours.

Susan said...

Dan--I see this friend in person about once a year or less on average, and that's not even achieved by intentionally meeting up (we just kinda bump into each other). You have a point, however. I think I'll send her the permalink to today's post! (And I promise I won't pry her fingers open if she should end up grabbing the highly-coveted prize!)

CR said...

I think it's great Phil that you are offering a free book on your blog.

DJP said...

Well, Rachael, first: I have not the slightest doubt that you'll sail through the book without difficulty. Second, of course the subject-matter is difficult. Third, I guess the way I frame it in my head is in car-terms: in WTG, the "muscle" is to a large degree "under the hood"; in the Proverbs book, I show the math. The former strives for conveying truckloads of Biblical truth in a conversational tone; the latter (I hope) has a similar tone, but is more expositional and up-front instructive.

Maybe after you read them you can put it better than I, and then I can just quote you all over the place.

Susan, you're a gracious friend.

Hm; CR makes me think I should add a disqualifier or two.

CR said...

LOL. I couldn't resist.

Susan said...

Looks like somebody (hint: CR) won't be getting that prize even if he does make the 1,000,000 hit! :)

For the first time I can remember, ever, at Pyro, someone called Phil "Dan" today.

WIN

DJP said...

Poor Phil. Me, getting confused with Phil is a great thing. Even by haters -- because everyone hates Phil for good reasons, by which I mean they hate him because of something good about him. This is not true of all my haters, sadly.

threegirldad said...

Yeah, I fell out of my chair when I read that comment at Pyro this morning. He corrected himself right away, not having a clue (I'm betting) what he had just done.

Dan:

Can you autograph my Kindle version of WTG?

DJP said...

Virtually.

David Alves said...

Dear Dan:

So very excited for your book(s) to come out! I just ordered WTG yesterday; but if I do win, could you autograph it to a pastor friend? We're very much alike and so I think it would make a good brithday gift--one week before mine. :o)

Thank you so much for yusing your sharp talent for writing to stand for the Truth! It is an encouragement to a budding writer like me.

DJP said...

I'm pondering what to do about the requests for autographs. Of course, have me preach/seminarize at your church, and problem = solved. Otherwise, I dunno. May have to rent a PO box, have folks send me the book along with SAS mailing envelopes? But what about the inevitable dear souls who send the book without envelope or postage? Say in advance that they're going to the Salvation Army? Have well-intentioned instructions-challenged readers mad at me? Eek.

William Dicks said...

Still 353 to go! Dan, you certainly created a lot of excitement here!

May the Lord bless you and the sales of this book!

William Dicks said...

Hi Dan,

I just noticed that your book is listed on South Africa's most prominent online bookseller at http://www.kalahari.com/home/The-World-Tilting-Gospel/41427281.aspx

The excitement is mounting!!!

I would freak out if I got that 1,000,000th spot. I'd probably mess up taking the screen shot. (sigh)

Good thing I've pre-ordered the hard copy. I'll feel like a winner when it arrives.

Merrilee Stevenson said...

1,000,007.

Woo hoo! Congratulations!

Now I can go do my laundry.

Ahh! 7 too late. Somebody play me the "Price is Right Losing Horn" sound effect.

Woo Hoo!

I'm your lucky winner!

Thanks for all your faithful work in the kingdom, Dan. I'm looking forward to reading your book.

I think I won.
