Hither and thither — 2/20/09

What's the net scooped up this week:
  • Another snapshot at life (and its end) in a socialized medicine environment? And this is where Obama is heading us? A massive bureaucracy with all the efficiency of the USPO, and all the compassion of the IRS?
  • Maybe I should add a Warning Shot Alert feature. If I did, this kid would be this week's entry.
  • Coming Soon to California alert. (If not, why not?)
  • I don't "Twitter." Just don't see the point of it yet. Do you? Well, if you do, or are about to, here are ten tips for starting right. Supposedly.
  • This is science. "Why, Jimmy, there could be hundreds of inhabited, earth-like planets! Millions! Trillions! A hundred billion trillion!" Wow. You see, "scientists are now coming to the conclusion that the universe is teeming with living organisms." Oh, and the hard, unambiguous evidence for even one such planet, and one such extra-terrestrial living organism? A hundred billion trillion zeroes. But it's fun, and it's science, and nobody will prove you wrong in your lifetime! Now, explain to me the difference between that, and speculating about a hundred billion trillion years with no witness, on a loaded system, with no possibility of final falsification.
  • "Please pull over, sir. You're in violation of Vehicle Code 666.0, 'Criticizing The One.'" Okay, not that. And the officer's actions are ju-u-u-ust on the far border of understandable ignorance.
  • Not everyone is loving the Messiah-based economy. But hey, why not have some fun while the president ruins the country?
  • Weird way of saying "Thank you" alert. Previous Republican presidents appointed blacks to various high offices. Now we have a half-black president, who appoints a black to be the nation's Attorney General. And what does AG Eric Holder have to say to us all? That we're a nation of cowards on the subject of race. Thank you, President Obama. let the healing begin!
  • Michelle Malkin offers some excellent perspective on Holder's remark. For her troubles, she's shown the usual liberal version of love — but I'll hold the link until after this warning. I've read a number of emails Michelle gets, and I think our sister LaShawn would echo this. Liberals are absolutely vicious towards non-white women who dare criticize the liberal ideology. I normally don't link to horrid language (and this isn't the worst I've seen), but you can get just a little taste of what these women face, if you like, here.
  • Plague-carrying mice missing... but don't worry! So says our cracker-jack FBI. (Tip thanks to faithful reader Becky, who particularly likes the wording of "there was no risk to public health or any indication of the terrorist link." The MSM writes English real good!)
  • An eye for an eye may be about to carried out literally in Iran. (Thanks to an anonymous faithful reader for the tip.)
  • Locked up in the Birmingham City Jail, because of denial of fundamental civil rights. Who? Martin Luther King, Jr.? Well, yes; but not this time. Oh no, not new racism? Nope. This was a group of Christian youths peacefully protesting the slaughter of innocents by abortion, and exercising their First Amendment rights.
  • There's no law against being a jerk, right? Evidently, in England, there is.
  • Here's some great advice:
  • Another reminder (if we needed it) that English is not as easy as it looks. Best to leave it to, ahem, professionals.
  • And finally... okay, I've never had anything go this badly in a wedding.

That wedding video is hilarious. I laugh every time I see it, but I'm pretty sure if I was the bride, I wouldn't be laughing.

Quite honestly, it seemed a little bit too staged for me (witness the best mans fall a few times) and I am very suspect of its reality as a serious wedding - nontheless, very funny.

Chris H said...

If the groom was any sort of man, he would get down in there too, and finish up the wedding there. You know, richer and poorer, drier and wetter...

But yeah, it looks a little staged. Still funny.

Tsk. You're all so cynical.

I think it's insensitive for the MSNBC article to refer to an ugly bride in India as a dog.

Wow. Lot of good stuff, here. I'm really speechless to all the things going on.

While "cowards" was probably intended as an inflammatory dig, I can't disagree with Mr. Holder that this country is STILL largely afraid to truly deal with ethnicity.

I commented on MM's blog what I'll repeat here: too many Whites are afraid to go hands-on to break ethnic barriers with blacks BECAUSE of the actions of people like Al Sharpton, too many blacks accept that its ok to hate whites BECAUSE of the actions of people like mr. Sharpton, too many hispanics have carried generations old hatred for other hispanics to wherever they go, and caucasian-europeans all have "really good" reasons for disliking other caucasion-europeans.

Maybe the cause is something other than fear, but fear absolutely plays a part. I hate it when I have to agree with certain people, but I agreed with John Murtha about the level of racism in Western Pennsylvania (Where I live) and I agree with Eric Holder that fear is still keeping many of us apart based on skin color and ethnic origin.

Please don't confuse this acknowledgment with a belief that there is any other answer besides personal heart change, and the optimum of that being life in Christ. I know that's the only way out.

Still, when I see a media that disparages race at will, and talk daily with people who can completely justify their dislike of entire ethnic groups of people and that usually not even based on experience, I take any inference that the fight is over or to try and downplay the continuing problem of racism as another push to the background.

~Mark said...

HSAT, let me agree that Mr. Holder's comments were inflammatory, but only because of HOW he offered them, not because they have no foundation.

The whole country is not cowardly, but until I stop having racism thrown in my face on a regular basis I'm not gonna say he is completely wrong.

I'm probably a luddite when it comes to tweeting, but I don't get it. Do we really need to know every little detail about every person all the time?

Love that wedding.

I'm with chrish... the groom should man up and jump in too!

Dave Sherrill,

To the first part of your statement: no, absolutely not. You aren't a luddite simply because you haven't fallen all over yourself carrying on about the wonders of Twitter.

To your question: no, absolutely not.

69% caucasian nation elects 1st racially mixed president. All cowards. Civil rights mama's boys. Step off with your wannabe equality. Quit hiding all the fear.

I'm telling you Holder = Iraqi Minister of Info.

As I posted on February 18,

Does Mr. Holder think that because he is a "black" man he is an authority on racism? Perhaps he should wag his finger at someone else. Mr. Obama perhaps? Obama's "pastor" for years, Jeremiah Wright, is an open racist. Is Mr. Holder OK with that? Or are "black" people exempt from having issues with racial understanding? Or is it people associated with The One are exempt?

The wedding looked very real to me. If you look, he slipped on a stair and was fumbling to get a foothold. I thought it was absolutely hilarious. My wife chuckled a bit then said, "that's horrible!" I responded: "Well, it was certainly memorable."

This incident with Biringham PD only illustrates that Pro-choice people aren't about choice. They are pro-abortion.

Racism? Holder should look in the mirror. Blacks are far more rascist than whites. At my work, the blacks basically segregate themselves. And of course, working for the government, there is rampant hiring and promotion of unqualified persons simply to fill "diversity" quotas. The amount of time wasted with diversity task forces, personnell, and training is astounding.

"Another snapshot at life (and its end) in a socialized medicine environment?"
how is this the product of socialized medicine?

- This kid would be this week's entry: My dad's friend, now a Christian by God's grace, was shot twice one in the face, and the person who shot him shot herself just above her forehead. Both lived, nothing of any big consequence happened to my dad's friend, as for her the bullet did not harm her brain at all, it swelled because of the wound but the brain was left intact.

"Twitter" I tried it, its the same thing as changing your status message on facebook...

"Please pull over, sir. You're in violation of Vehicle Code 666.0, 'Criticizing The One.'"
Wow! and that's in America, land of the free...

English is not as easy as it looks. Best to leave it to, ahem, professionals. oh wow too funny!!

"The change in thinking has come about because of the new belief there are an abundant number of habitable planets like Earth."
ah Mr. Phillips at least its a new "belief" not really facts...but hmmm it sounds more like a new religion than science..

"If you have a habitable world and let it evolve for a few billion years then inevitably some sort of life will form on it," said Dr Boss.
"It is sort of running an experiment in your refrigerator - turn it off and something will grow in there."
WOW I can't even believe a "scientist" would use such a terrible example...of course bacteria will flourish in such an environment after someone else has placed those bacteria in there, you don't see any bacteria growing in brand new refrigerators and who created those bacteria? a little hint: it wasn't evolution.

The first story is all about the English temperament. It's why we all repeatedly say how grateful we are for the NHS. Because we're polite to the point of farce - and in cases like this, it's not funny.

But I recall many a time in hospital, being in great pain and needing medication, and waiting quietly without it because the nurses were so busy, I didn't want to cause a fuss.

It's why we queue. Couple the English reserve with a stretched-thin system that cannot do what people want it to do, and people do suffer, and they do die.

I am very grateful for the NHS care I've received over the years - but it's not been uniformly excellent, and there's no possible way it could be. Universal healthcare 'works' if you're aiming for the lowest common denominator and are prepared to suffer stoically - to death, if needs be.

Banned stalkertroll OSO authorized me to tell you how much he admires the Biblical vision of America's Founding Fathers, who would have mounted another rebellion at the thought of the government controlling such matters, and robbing productive citizens to support it.

He asks us to envision a system run by people who don't value life, who are equally content to butcher babies, starve the disabled to death, and neglect the elderly.

Or, to look at it another way, think of such power over life and death given to people who think they're above the rules, think laws don't apply to them, never listen, never learn, and think they own everything and have the right to do whatever they want.

You know, people who act like he's acting.

ROFL!

"Banned Stalkertroll . . . "

I love it.

Hmmm. That might come in handy someday.

About the plague mice. We have squirrels running around with plague in our area. We are not to try and pet the squirrels.

But....on the same note. Did you hear about the cave dwelling Al Queda guys who died of the plague not long ago? It is suspected that they were experimenting with biological warfare.

DJP said...

Yes, very ominous.

Solameanie said...

In another sense, it's poetic justice. They monkey with the plague, the plague monkeys with them.

I wish we'd get off the pot and get these clowns before they do something really horrific.

~Wow. There's a boundary breaker at work. /sarcasm

At my work, the blacks basically segregate themselves.

~Since you've noticed this have you asked them why or tried to insert yourself to end this practice with friendship and fellowship? "He who knows the good he should do..."

And of course, working for the government, there is rampant hiring and promotion of unqualified persons simply to fill "diversity" quotas. The amount of time wasted with diversity task forces, personnell, and training is astounding.

~Yes it is, and it causes more problems than it solves. Like labor unions it had it's place for a short time in very limited scope. Once it went beyond that it became a negative.

"It is sort of running an experiment in your refrigerator - turn it off and something will grow in there."

Just think, all of Louis Pasteur's work going to waste. The very theory he wanted to disprove has started all over again.

~Since you've noticed this have you asked them why or tried to insert yourself to end this practice with friendship and fellowship? "He who knows the good he should do..."

Yes and yes. The "why" is partially a subculture that exists in the black community, a flame that is fanned by persons such as Al Sharpton. As for inserting myself, that was one of the issues I tackled when I was a supervisor. And I still forcibly insert myself now that I am not longer a supervisor. Truthfully though, it's like moving an immovable object. Only God can do the moving at this point.

Yes it is, and it causes more problems than it solves

It doesn't solve any problems and often achieves the opposite of what it intended.

Moving to a different topic, I was a little incredulous that the courts had to get involved because the neighbor whistled the Addams Family. "Emotional" duress? You've got to be kidding. Talk about wimpy. No wonder the Muslims are taking over Europe so quickly.

DJP said...

Yes.

Now, if he'd been whistling "The Munsters," or "I Dream of Jeannie," or "The Brady Bunch" -- brr-r-r-r!

Becky Schell said...

Moving back a topic or two. What I found interesting about that sentence was the use of the definite article, "there was no risk to public health or any indication of the terrorist link." It seems like a terrorist would be the better choice here...

My favorite grammar book, Harvey's Elementary Grammar and Composition, explains the difference this way:

"When we say, 'A horse was stolen," a denotes that one horse is meant, but it does not point out any particular horse. When we say "The horse was stolen," the denotes that a particular horse is meant."

Conclusion: Grammar Matters.

"Please pull over, sir. You're in violation of Vehicle Code 666.0, 'Criticizing The One.'"

I could be wrong, but didn't we have signs that said "Bomb Bush" or something to that effect?
Why were there no arrests? I mean, heck, we even had a 'what if' movie depicting the assasination of our former president. geez....

BTW, Dan, did you notice the irony in the news story you posted of the Kid and the Kitchen knife, and the mispelled English?

DJP said...

I'm not seeing it. Tell me, please.

You know, the one that specifically orders people to keep the knives out of their children?

Right, NOW it does. However, it was a good thing to crack open the doors initially. It should have had time limits though. Once enough people had been afforded the chance (not solely on skin color but aptitude as well) to attain positions where they could reach back with education and opportunity for others, it should've been terminated.
