Pre-"Hithers": Obots keeping America safe from...Americans; Christianoid iPhone apps

It's actually true: this week's Hither and Thither© is already so bursting that I'm giving a pre-game show. I don't want The Squirrel to accuse me again of copying his copying of me, so I'll keep it on Friday this week. But these are a couple of items I want to be sure don't get buried:

The Obama DHS: hard at work watching you
Do you sleep safer at night knowing that The 'The One' Administration is keeping a wary, watchful, and suspicious eye on people who oppose abortion and illegal immigration, who support the Second Amendment, who are leery of totalitarian government — and (da da DAAAAAAAA) served in the military?

It's true. In a recent, outrageous report, The New and Improved Department of Homeland Security reported on the mounting threat of... of what? Islamic extremists? Nah, they're just friends we haven't made yet! Pirates? Nahh; they're just disadvantaged seamen. Who, then? Domestic, left-wing terrorists like the president's ol' buddy Bill Ayers? Nahh; he's a respected professor!

No, the evil threat is: rightwing groups! And the evidence for this threat is....

Well, it's pathetic. Once again, the MSM seems to be showing that same maddening lack of curiosity, suspicion, and integrity that characterized it during the Clinton years. And once again, it takes a non-MSMer even to ask questions and try to get at the truth.

Read Powerline's John "Rocket Man" Hinderaker's investigation of the report: Watch Out for Those Crazy Right Wingers! I warn you, though, it's infuriating. Turns out our government is basing its report on a misreading of a baseless press-release from a left-wing group.

All of which causes me to ask: for what government actions are these rumblings the predicate?

Bloggers: doing what the MSM is supposed to do. (See also the reflections from American Thinker here and here.)

As a postscript, the DHS has weakly replied that it had issued a mirror-report earlier, focusing on left-wing groups. FOX news reviewed that report, and its verdict is: not so much.

UPDATE: characteristically for this administration (which, when it errs badly, simply doubles-down), Napolitano stands by this report.

50 iPhone Apps for "Christians"
I received (and appreciate) a tip for an article titled "50 Excellent iPhone Apps for Christian Living." The tip came from one of the contributors (no title) to the site, which is itself called Christian Colleges.

Unfortunately, I have to start with a warning. In this case, the use of "Christian" apparently ranges from the genuine, to the sociological, to the not even remotely.

The site itself links to Christian and Roman Catholic institutions equally (first two senses). But the specific page includes links to iPhone apps such as the ESV Study Bible and various other Bible versions... but also apps that are pagan, Buddhist, and the Science of Mind. That last is the anti-Christian cult from which the Lord saved me.

So read with great discernment, but you might find a useful link or two there.

Hey Dan,
Were going to have a get together down at our compound this weekend if you and your family want to come down from your compound for a visit. We plan to do some shootin'

Sure — if we can make it past the check-points.

My name is Stan and I'm a pro-life, anti-illegal immigration, gun toting right-wing extremist and I have no plans on changing.

"Nappy" was governor of Arizona for most of the time we lived there, and neither this report or her response to it surprises me one little bit. Her appointment to DHS is the clearest signal possible that President Obama doesn't take his responsibility to "preserve, protect and defend" seriously.

Dan & Fred,

Just don't shoot any squirrels, of? :-) & checkpoints? Has Kalifornya gotten that bad?

~Squirrel(& thanks for the nod -- "accuse me again of copying his copying of me" -- LOL)

Actually I have made up some really cool clay figurines with the images of various liberal politicians and leftist Hollywood types we can use.

Can we make it a full blown homeschool/Jesus Camp/AIG convention too? I'm shocked, and slightly offended that "radical" homeschoolers were left of the list.

DJP said...

Just wait. It's coming.

Speaking of homeschool conventions, we got one coming up this weekend in Albuquerque. I'll be watching for the black helicopters...

I don't think it's that. I think they really, truly believe we are dangerous. I've run into these people on my homeschool e-mail list and they think we are the biggest threat to freedom and liberty that has ever existed in this country. Blind hatred is...well....ignorantly blinding!

DJP said...

Well, and similarly they had no curiosity about anything Clinton said or did because he was Their Guy, and his ideology was their ideology.

But that doesn't clear them of the charge of neglect of duty. A reports is supposed to be curious, hard to satisfy, full of question-marks. A good reporter won't hear "many" and "may," and not ask HOW many and WHAT leads you to think that, WHO said it, WHY are you saying this now... what should be basics.

Completely agree, Dan. It does raise the issue of how they're being trained in colleges these days. Are they being trained to ignore evidence they don't agree with? Must they tow the party line to receive a diploma?

I have a 17-year-old with a interest in politics and a major along those lines and it's maddening to even look at schools these days. He created a web site for a high school history competition last month at a nearby university and was blackballed - seriously - blackballed and not moved on to the next level for daring to say negative things about the judge's beloved liberal icon, Woodrow Wilson. She said that people might be offended at their strong language - they dared to call him a racist. A foretaste, I'm sure, of what he'll be dealing with at the University next year.

Choices:

Public university - liberal education/probably forced to suppress your conservative beliefs to pass the classes.

Private Christian School - Good if you can find one that is biblically sound anymore! Some of the liberal theological swill is worse than the public universities. Also good if you want to graduate with thousands and thousands of dollars of student loan debt.

Ugh.

The daughter is a journalism major & a conservative - raised with a Bible in one hand, and a Limbaugh letter in the other! There is hope on the horizon.

OSO just wanted to drop by and asked me to tell you that he falls on his knees and prays every night for America. He knows what a danger we live under, now that we have a man in charge who is un-serious about the threats of the world, and is motivated by a narrow, anti-Christian, ultra-statist worldview. He's aware that if America falls, much of the world will suddenly become vulnerable. The sight of an American president with so little respect for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or even American history, sends chills through the entire civilized world, and he wanted us to know he shares our fear of the future.

Carol Jean said...

Let's invite him to the compound too!

I so wish I had subscribed to this thread earlier. I love it when OSO comes here (mostly I love Dan's translation).

They don't need to watch homeschoolers yet, because they plan to make it illegal first. You actually think they'll continue to let you educate your own children? HA! Seriously, rules for radicals has public education as a top priority.

Carol Jean: It's interesting that she'd love Woodrow Wilson because he was "progressive" but totally ignore the whole "warmongering" that I'm sure they'd accuse him of if his name was Woodrow Bush. Good luck to your son. The Woodrow Wilson site was excellent so I'm sure he'll do well despite the discrimination. Definately do research on the professors before you take their classes.

DJP said...

Oh, now, Carol Jean... that would be fun.

Laying on of hands without the spirit? Just kidding. Sword of the Spirit, baby!

Like many, I was not at all surprised that this is how the Obamanations regard us. I was, however, a bit surprised that they've been so open about it so quickly. It seems like the sort of thing they'd try to get in piecemeal through the backdoor rather than being so upfront about it.

I, for one, was a bit surprised to read that the 10th amendment is radical right-wing extremism. Wasn't really expecting that one, although it makes perfect sense. But this does finally solidify a view that's been out there for a while: opposition to the wholesale slaughter of innocent unborn children is now considered a dangerous radical extremism. The mind boggles.

Dan, I see you put up a picture of those non-tax paying fellows from Texas. Dyin' over 200 bucks is a crazy way to go.

Bonus Army, Weaver, Koresh, Ballew and Lawmaster...

That's enough..my blood pressure can't handle it.

Banned, obsessive stalker-troll OSO asked me to tell you that Proverbs 27:22 is so, so true. But knowing that can't prepare you for the sadness of watching someone stubbornly and knowingly living it out before the world.

Great verse Dan.
