I'm having a quadrilingual day

I just realized — not that it matters, in the larger arena — that I am (or will be) having a quadrilingual day.
  1. I read Acts in Greek; then...
  2. I read Proverbs aloud in Hebrew; then...
  3. I go to work, where I take calls in English; and...
  4. I also am in the lineup to handle calls in Spanish, from Mexico.
No wonder my poor empty head gets a little sore and "affused" sometimes.

There, now you are obliged to be quintilingual. Although the lines obviously do not apply to you, but rather to your readers (apparently the majority) still slumbering.

Yes, thank you; I could have thrown in res ipso loquitur and Weltanschauung and savoir-faire to make it seven; but I can't really talk or read much in them.

Lame excuse for not having your H&T.

Kidding!

DJP said...

LOL

Fine. Just for that: no H&T until I have at least six comments in this meta, from six different people, of whom none is me.

DJP said...

Count is two, presently.

Oh, and the comments can't be just "I'm number three!"

Two many rules!

I just hope the H&T is in English.

I forsee Nan's lie, Miss CA, Mustard no kechep, pizza talk ... been a busy week.

... and the word ver. is a lib: rushno

That's five!

And Jack, you'll learn NEVER to try to second-guess the Earl of Eclectic!

Dan - I never knew you were such an accomplished polyglot!

Joy's faith in science has got to be in there too.

DJP said...

Oh, I'm all about glotting.

Well, that's six. So I'll go get it out of the oven.

DJP said...

Jack, Jack, Jack; I'm trying to help you.

So in addition to reading the Bible in the original languages every day, you can also communicate in Spanish? That's great!

그리고 이것을 읽으실 수 있었으면 quintilingual 하루를 하시라고 하실 수가 있었습니다.

Kŭrigo igŏsŭl ilgŭshil su issŏssŭmyŏn quintilingual harurŭl hashirago hashil suga issŏssŭmnida.

"And if you could read this too, you could say that you're having a quintilingual day."

And totally unrelated, but if there were a single word "five languages" in Chinese, it would look like this: 五語

JackW said...

Let me know how that works out for you.

I recommend lots of patience.

happy sigh -

I have such erudite readers.

You going to see Star Trek? (It's in English, BTW, just so I'm not completely off topic.)

DJP said...

No Klingon??

Yes, I plan to go. You?

Aaron said...

I want to know what time you have to get up everyday to read two books of the Bible, feed the kids, get dressed for work, and blog about it?

And BTW, I'm a little disappointed that you are not at least on your way to work by 6:30AM.

Matt Gumm said...

Already been. We went to a showing last night. There was Klingon, but it was offscreen.

Better than good. Can't say enough good stuff about it. Here's my first impression (being both tired and not wanting to post any spoilers).

Aaron said...

Dan,

You can practice your Klingon at the Las Vegas Hilton. The characters there actually know the language.

Ka'plah!

I get up around 3am these days, because the day starts with feeding this poor, tiny kitten we rescued. I mean to blog on that sometime. Poor little guy.

DJP said...

That's great to hear, Matt. I'm looking forward to it. I was optimistic the moment I saw that J. J. Abrams was attached to it. I don't think I'd have bothered with anything from the old guys. They were long-since tapped out.

Aaron said...

3AM? Wow, I'm just getting to sleep. You must get to bed pretty early or not need sleep. I have difficulty on anything less than 7 hours of sleep.

DJP said...

I'm blessed with a pretty strong constitution. My family marvels. I very seldom get sick, and I can do well on relatively little sleep.

But I reboot over the weekends by that wonderful invention called THE NAP.

Aaron said...

I've had to make a recommittment to working out on a regular basis. The only thing that keeps me feeling good and allows for less sleep is regular exercise.

OF course, now that I have a 2 year old, doing anything when I get home is darn near impossible. (and I don't get home until about 7PM - I work from about 8AM to 7PM).

There is a language I speak daily that you did not mention, but perhaps you know...it's called "customer". It's a very dynamic language and changes rapidly. Sometimes it resembles English but does not contain any technical terms whatsoever. Yes, this is the language from which "fat phone cord" originates!

I'd throw another language into the mix, but you can't see me signing.

You know if your going to moan about languages I had to add this to your ever growing list.

Mi parolas la lingvon Esperanton ankaŭ

Now there is a sci-fi language that existed way before Klingon.

Stefan Ewing said...

Ah, good old Esperanto.

It was the punchline of a joke I made once, and nobody got it.
