Ultimate resource on cessationism

Big title. Pretty good page!

Except —snif! — he doesn't link to any of my many posts on the subject, either here or on Pyro. Or my article!

Jim Jordan taught on this for Pentecost Sunday...

His basic premise was that tongues was a sign of judgment against the Jewish nation. Tongues ended with the destruction of the Temple.

Have you ever heard that explanation? It was fascinating.

I've not only heard it, I've given it!

Have you posted on that specific topic? I'd be interested to read it.

He did link to me.

And I didn't even troll for it.

Click the three links in the post, Trinian.

Fred...wow. Wow wow wow.

So, it doesn't quote you...it's naught but the Penultimate Resource on cessationism!

Al, DJP, whoever,

-His basic premise was that tongues was a sign of judgment against the Jewish nation. Tongues ended with the destruction of the Temple.-

Can anyone point me to a paper or talk on that issue? This is very interesting to me.
I would be much obliged. I've never heard that before.

Sure: 1 Corinthians 14:21-22, compared with the original in the context of Isaiah 28:11.

(c;

It's also in my unpublished book on the Holy Spirit... which is totally different from the (DV) going-to-be-published book I'm working on.

(Fred) Yep, blew me away, too.

(Fred) You have an unpublished book?
PDFs? Link? Please, enlighten us.

Well, it is still a work in progress. ;-) Give me a few hours, and you'll be added! See; trolling isn't so bad.

Dan, I just remembered why I didn't add a lot from TeamPyro et al. A lable of 'daGifts' isn't that helpful. I don't really want to link to 6 short thoughts on the subject, but would rather link to one complete article/post. That's why a couple of Phil's posts from TeamPyro were added. If you could please email specific articles from TeamPyro you want added and you think would benefit those studying the topic, I'll add them right away.

P.S. I've added your article on tongues, and several posts from this blog that you did on the subject. Thanks!

P.P.S. Not sure if you have access to my email address as I've left a comment. If not, then send a message via the Contact page on my blog and I'll get back to you ASAP with my email.

Oh - so you didn't find these resources? All the authors emailed you, and asked to be on the list?

It's all one to me what you do; it's still a good page. But you can use the tag to look at the articles, see what they're about, and add the ones you think are worth adding.

Dan: No, they didn't all email me (although I've had people do that to be added since originally compiling it). I compiled a list of resources, most of which I had used in my studies of the subject. A lot of those links, when I was searching for them, or getting them out of bookmarks, linked to an article, post, journal piece. I didn't hunt through a label/tag finding which posts were complete articles, and which were short nuggets / thoughts, or trying to piece together series, etc.

Thanks for pointing out some of your articles that I had missed (and not read) until now. I trust the Lord will use them for those seeking the truth regarding spiritual gifts.

Fred Butler: My wife and I came across your audio series when we first left the Pentecostal movement. It was a blessing and has been on my iPod ever since (I only listened once though). It therefore immediately went on the list of resources. I didn't know who you were at the time.

LOL.

"I wasn't listed!"

"Well, send me a link or e-mail me your articles that you believe merit being listed."

"Look them up for yourself on my blog!"

DJP said...

You're skipping the part where I already provided links to them in the article, Aaron.

That tidbit was "edited for content" as the author felt it didn't add to the central theme of the story.

;)

Nathan,
You will probably never know how much that blesses my heart to read. Praise the Lord!

Rhology,
This is a news letter that Jim Jordan published some years ago. He is an interesting fellow. He is very good at seeing patterns of events in the bible and how those speak to the redemptive story.
Biblical Horizons

I have an audio file of him teaching on this topic from a couple of Sundays ago and would be happy to send that to you if you are interested. It is to one of my own sites and I am trying to break the link troll habit.
