Hither and thither — 7/3/09

Shortest. HT. Ever. (In terms of text/graphics ratio.)
  • The only soap opera I've ever watched was Dark Shadows, back in the late '60s, early 70s. So it is with only distant interest that I note two soap actors losing their jobs because they don't want to be used for more forced perversion-mainstreaming.
  • One word, and it deserves to be large: PWN3D.
  • Important Health Tip from reader NoLongerBlind:
  • For my Lego fans and parents of same, here is a page of Lego art. Some samples (click to enlarge):

  • The most positive spin I can put on this next item is: California is no longer guilty of sending the worst senator to Washington. Meanwhile, Congress' collective IQ drops another couple of ticks. One more similar election, and we'll be in the negative column.
  • Sometimes it's good to be reminded how sober, a-theological, and fiercely objective all Real Scientists are. (I particularly appreciate the deep concern from the female Real Scientist who (A) finds the theology of the Creation Museum "offensive" and a distortion of the Christian message, and (B) is an elder in a Presbyterian church. One assumes she handles the data of the fossils as objectively and accurately as she handles the data of Scripture.
  • Inspired by our special Admiral Ackbar edition, Herding Grasshoppers' boys thought of us and forwarded this ad they received (click to enlarge):
  • Dude... you're doing it wrong.
  • Here's a Whoa, what's up with that? picture.

  • And then, of course, there's....

It may have been short, but like Frank Corti it packed quite a punch!

I personally found the Creation Museum quite informative.

Dan - help me out in my ignorance:

Great eclectic collection, as always!

From the urbandictionary.com:

1.
1: Losing badly at something

2: l337 (online) slang for 'owned'

3: The mis-spelling of 'owned'

4: Getting showed up/embarressed in a public event by someone/something
Example for 1:
Ryan loses to Brian
Brian: "Hahaha, you got PWN3D!"

Example for 3:
"And then I pwn3d him at Halo"
"Whoops, I mean owned."

3.
Originating from the word "owned", the word later took on the 1337 variation 0wn3d. Because this was primarily used as a cry of victory or supremacy in first person shooter games online, typos occured, the most common involved missing the "o" key and hitting the "p" key. This stuck, leaving us with the words pwn, pwn4g3, and pwn3d
Dude, 3 head shots in a row, you just got pwn3d.

Thanks for the urbaneducation,
Stan!

I figured it was some sort of Text-speak, or derivative there-of.

I've heard my 14-yr old son state triumphantly, "You just got PONED", and figured it was a combination of "owning an opponent", but had never seen it written out!

Ah, the wonders of our evolving English language!

NLB, thanks. I thought I was the only American that didn't know what PWN3D meant. :)

"Creationism is not accepted by most mainstream churches...." BALONEY!!!!

A Gallup poll just showed that the majority of Christians believe in Creationism, only about 30% believe in Evolution. Granted, I'm not a young earther(I have no idea how old the earth is) but still....

And what bad theology? "God didn't create them like the Bible says....that's bad theology." ????? theistic evolutionists are not as demonized as they are lead to believe, this story just makes them into victims.....patheitic.

That's too bad. ;)

So, let me see if I have this right. A woman who has played a character on a show for years promoting rampant immoral sex is fired for not accepting immoral sex. Interesting.

The sad thing is she'll probably be honored by the Christian community as a "martyr", when the person who really should be honored is the one with great acting ability and looks that turns down any acting job that requires ANY compromise regarding sexual immorality. How many of those are out there? I thank God for them.

Ken Ham mentioned another similar sounding article blasting the Creation Museum in which the woman professor was whining about how reasonable, evolutionary science was losing to us hill billy creationists, because we are breeding more.

I'm a long time supporter of Answers in Genesis, and I must admit that I do get some perverse pleasure at the discomfort the Creation Museum causes evolutionists.

Face it, they own the schools, they own the TV channels PBS, Discovery, History, Science, TLC & the like, they own the "scientific establishment" and still only 4 in 10 Americans believe whole-heartedly in evolution. That's gonna leave a mark.

And I just loved it that Frank Corti took out the bad guy. And he understands justice, too, "We are pleased he won't be troubling us for a few years." That punk kid should have listened to Admiral Ackbar! (Or at least have watched Gran Turino)

Tristan: Couldn't have said it better myself. I really can't clap my hands for actors whose roles support adultery, lust, and fornication but who see homosexual behavior and go, "Oh no, now that goes against my personal beliefs."

I was disappointed that Colemena did not fight his case in federal court. First Washington State and now Minnesota. Democrats always seem to find the votes they need, miracously.

Well, the damage of November 8 is now complete. The demonicrats now have absolute power in government. It's their party now.

Let's not forget this July 4th to thank our Obama voters for thsi travesty.

Go Frank Corti! "We need more like him."

And, personally, love the pic of the crows on the lines. I have days when I feel like that One.

Am I the only one who looked at the Star Wars ad and spent several minutes trying to tell the "o" and "a" apart? Because it sure looks like they're calling him General Modine, and that really bugs me. Quite aggravating it is.

I LOVE the Twilight Zone. This is one of my all-time favorites, right up there with 'To Serve Man' and the one where Burgess Meredith survives nuclear war...the name escapes me...

The one with Burgess Meredith is called "Time Enough at Last."

It's one of my favorites, along with "Five Characters In Search of an Exit" and "Nothing In the Dark."

Dr. Park, the weepy Univ. of Akron prof., has a history of attacking anything smelling of creationism. In 2006, the Ohio school board tried to get ONE lesson added to the curriculum that would critically examine the evolution debate. Predictably, the atheist academic elitists went on the war path.

Dr. Dan Ely, a friend and SS teacher, helped write the lesson plan and also testified in Kansas' ID hearings. His colleagues at the Univ. of Akron (including Dr. Park) wrote a scathing letter denouncing his views and testimony. He endured serious persecution at work and in the press and if not for tenure would undoubtedly be selling Fuller brushes door-to-door somewhere in Alaska.

The ignorance displayed in the comments posted in the link above is stunning and give insight into what "they" think of "us.' It's actually rather scary. They are convinced that unless one is thoroughly educated in Darwinist doctrine and completely and utterly BELIEVES IN IT, one has no business being granted scientific credentials (i.e. PhD, MD).

They think someone like Dr. Ely has NO business working in the scientific field, although a peek at his Curriculum Vitae clearly shows he's made many contributions to the field of hypertension research. So what if you find a cure for cancer, if you don't walk lock-step with the Darwinists, you're not qualified to give us the cure. Brilliant.

Paula, if they are going to discredit Dr. Ely like that, it's to their own detriment. Then again, they won't even know it because they are so intolerant. We know who gets the last laugh, of course. (Psalm 2)

Paula said...

Susan,

It's one thing for this to happen to a Dr. Ely or Behe who has tenure and some measure of job security. Not so much for a younger scientist/academic. My son will be attending Akron U. in the fall we know what he'll be up against with his "radical" YO and socially conservative POV.

But realistically, we have to expect to see Darwinist litmus tests for those in the scientific fields in the very near future. Probably for K-12 teachers too. The Darwinist mantra will need to be parroted in order to receive certifications, credentials, and probably even degrees.

CR:

Time to bunker down...

Paula: You can expect that and forced public schooling.

Susan said...

1. My word verification? "nogrit". Oppressive, intolerant Darwinists, anyone?

2. Paula, I can't say I've thought about this whole thing deeply, but you're right. Those who are in pursuit of a science degree and who know Darwinism is only a theory (an unsubstantiated one at that) may need to set their teeth and take those exams so that they can get their degree and affect others positively. (Of course they can mark all over their exam and explain why they don't believe in Darwinism as doctrine--I personally would be tempted to do so if I were in such a position. Wishful thinking, perhaps.)

Paula said...

Not to be a doomsday prophet, but I think it's going to go beyond merely answering a test correctly - we're already at that point. All you have to do is take a look at the current ACT test or some state high school achievement tests to see that.

Here's what someone wrote on in the comments about Dr. Ely:

The only thing i wonder is what kind of orals exams are these candidates given?”

Well, some Universities I know have faculty from allied fields as examiners. This is done so that individual departments don’t screw the pooch with respect to standards, and to make sure students are well rounded.

Seems like something was either missing from Ely’s education or was absent.

See, they don't care if you are educated in the macro-evolution, monkeys-to-man mantra and can spew it forth better than Darwin and Dawkins combined. They want to make sure you BELIEVE it and are willing to teach it to others without equivocating.

Dr. Ely received his education at UCLA. He was taught the same stuff other evolutionists were taught and was able to pass the same tests. In fact, it wasn't until later in his career that he began to question Darwinism.

Being able to answer the questions correctly is NOT good enough. Being thoroughly educated/indoctrinated is NOT good enough. This is a religion and it must be BELIEVED for one to be a credible scientist/academic.

Answer the questions honestly. Let the science establishment be damned!
