Jazz-flavored version of "Favorite Things"

"Pomplamoose," the folks who brought a kid's xylophone to "Beat It" give us this nice (i.e. I liked it) take on "Favorite Things." It'll segue nicely into tomorrow's (DV) review of a Christmas jazz album.

Same sort of odd, random ending.

Don't know if you caught it but here is another cool sounding holiday tune from them... I'm not familiar with the song so I don't know if it's original or a cover:

Interesting note -- they are/were giving away copies of their tunes if you donate through WorldVisions' "Buy A Goat" program.

I'm starting to become a fan. Thanks, Dan. I need new music. I'm still listening to Eric Clapton's "Unplugged". I have a theory that the blues are the Proverb's warnings come to life. You could put that in your book or something. :)

That's pretty cool, Brad; I'll have to ponder.

Here's something to get you going. Consider the lyrics to this song with Proverbs 14:20; 19:4, 7 (and other similar proverbs).

I'm getting used to her voice... starting to like it. Really like that Christmas song Michael mentioned.

The greatest-ever version of "My Favorite Things" is by John Coltrane:

And, while Eric Clapton did a fine version of "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," the song was actually written in 1923 and first recorded by "the Empress of the Blues, " Bessie Smith.

Sweet! Now I know where to get pamplamouse (sp?)soap. Thanks!

Cool sound... still having trouble with her style of singing.

I liked the first one but this one hasn't grown on me yet. It just sounds so passionless. I think the Beat It version they did was helped by the fast beat.

Ah well, sorry. "Eclectic" means not everyone will like everything.

Next Monday will be totally different.

Maybe if she just smiled once. Are they husband and wife or something?

Dan,

I like this more each day, man. I love the fact that we get to see the singer harmonizing with herself. I went and read up a little about the band, and his philosophy is that if you hear something in the song, then you see it in the video. It's really cool. It seems that his goal is to make "genuine", unsynthesized sound. I like it.

Sir Aaron,

She does smile at the end about the soap alot. Maybe she is concentrating while she's singing.

My word verification is: scapperi. Scapperi is when you try to trick someone into something. Like, when a used-car salesman doesn't tell you that the car you are looking at was submerged in flooding for a week. That's scapperi. (Yes, I made up the definition but I like it.)

I'm really glad to hear it, Brad. To me, the fact that some posts like this give folks smiles and fun times balances out the other posts (and HT items) are either frustrating, aggravating, or call for Deep Thought.

This is lovely, thanks Dan.
