Rushed randomness

Howdy, gang!

I have a training class today in Windows 7 and Office 2010, so I'm unsure of how much access I'll have to The Intrawebs. Here's a quick set of random thoughts for you:

  • On the one hand, August 1 seems close... and, on the other, faaaaar awaaaayyyyy....
  • So why did the kid in 2 Kings 4 sneeze seven times? What's the significance of that detail?
  • Be sure to read about Chris Anderson's mission today at Pyro.
  • I had my review of Lange's Commentary ready for Pyro, but (A) that item pushed it out of the way, and (B) didn't really want to do two book-reviews at Pyro in one week.
  • You know something I realize I'm loving about life right now? Though I'm not in fulltime ministry of the Word (don't love that), I do get the privilege of encouraging and strengthening pastors, to some small degree. I love that.
  • I agree with my Tweet about Obama's birth certificate.
All I have time for right now. More, actually.

Discuss!

HT tomorrow, DV.

Y;know, somebody somewhere do a really Bibley post on when someone's citizenship/birth identity doesn't seem to mesh at all with their thoughts, words and actions...

The sneezing... hmmm... something related to breath of life? Elisha breathing life back into him? Sneezing out death?

Or Elisha had bad breath???

I know that you have encouraged me. Quite often, in fact.

Can you link to the tweet you're referring to, please?

I am routinely encouraged and strengthened by your ministry, Dan.

Peter,

I think Dan's referring to this one.

Ditto to what The Squirrel and Pastor Pants said.

As to 2 Kings 4, the only thought that comes to my mind about the seven sneezes is that it might have been a sign of the completeness of the healing. That's the best I can come up with anyway.

I think Harold Camping said that, since the boy in 2 Kings 4 sneezed 7 times, 2x4x7 = 56. Camping is 89; 89-56 = 33, Jesus' age at His death. If the boy is a type of Camping, when Camping sneezes 7 times, Jesus will return. Or something like that.

LOL @jmb

Maybe whoever wrote that just noticed that the boy had a serious sneezing fit and otherwise had that kind of bean-counter personality like Matthew who (was probably the one who) counted through 153 fish with the resurrected Christ right there on the beach. (!!)

Just a guess. But I do like and hearken back to Deut 29:29 and I cannot tell you how much burden that has set me free from :)

Maybe the boy had an allergic reaction to Mount Carmel dust.

I thought you were referring to the tweet about the one favor that our President has done for our nation. I'd also add that one favor that Donald Trump has given us is appreciated, and we don't need any more favors from those guys any more!

JMB FTW! (Note to self - do not hire Harold Camping to help with my math/chemistry homework.)

On a sad note, I found out recently to my astonishment that a pastor's wife at a church in our general area (different denomination, but still decent and many of our friends are there) happens to be Camping's daughter. The pastor has actually taken some ministry hits for it when people have found out. There are signs all over the suburb where the church is, which means his poor daughter gets at least weekly reminders of her father's craziness. So, pray for Camping's repentance. But pray for his family too.

Thanks, all. I am grateful and humbled every time I hear that something I've written has been useful, encouraging, instructive.

"encouraging and strengthening pastors..."

That's really a blessing to both you and them and a superb ministry.
God put you where you are today so you can do that to some degree.

I think we, as in we who are not pastors, don't realize how much encouragement our shepherds need sometimes.

I echo the comments of being a pastor being shepherded (at the very least often encouraged)by you. Thanks.

Did you learn anything useful in the windows 7 and Office 2010 class?

DJP said...

Just finished the Win7, and yes, definitely.

Office 2010 after lunch.

Hmmm...I use both a lot at home. Always wondered if an advanced class would help me. But not many people have use for programming inside Excel or using pivot tables.

That is known as a "heptadic sneeze."
