Reportedly, it was and is all about money; and there are a number of studios interested in Dawn Treader. So it's far from dead. Which — if they don't sabotage the story, and particularly the ending — yay!

Hurrah!
Hopefully with Doug Gresham (C.S. Lewis' stepson) watching things, the new studio/filmmaker won't butcher it too badly.
Look on the bright side. When the new film comes out and you post a review of it, all the people will come out of the woodwork to tell us all how bad Lewis' theology was (and there is some truth to that). Nonetheless, I still enjoy Lewis' works - fiction and non-fiction.
At the end of the article to which Challies linked, there is another link ("Disney Blunders...") It's a letter by Mary McNamara posted on the LA Times--and it's a letter worth reading. (It's making me wanting to read "Dawn Treader" again....)
You're absolutely right, Susan. Thanks. That's a terrific letter.
(...although the reason McNamara's letter is prompting me to pick up "Dawn Treader" again is that she thought the most highly of it out of the six sequels of "Lion", to the point where she even considered "Caspian" a "dud". I wonder if that's a bit of a hyperbole, but her contrast between the two makes me want to reexamine "Dawn Treader", since I personally don't consider it the most interesting. "The Horse and His Boy" is the book I end up returning to again and again--just read the hilarious dialogue between any two Calormenes [may they live forever!] and you just might get what I mean. I wouldn't count on any studio to pick up this book, though....)
(Correction: It seems that McNamara enjoys "Dawn Treader" the most out of the ENTIRE "Narnia" series!)
