...but they're not really pro-abortion

My BSIL redirected my attention to a story relating to the coming Super Bowl. (That's some sort of sports-thing, I think, completely unrelated to salad or soup. I think people watch it on TV. People like, for instance, my BSIL. But I digress.)

Seems that University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow will appear in a commercial during the 2010 Super Bowl.

What kind of commercial? In praise of beer? Vodka? Fast cars? Fast food?

Not so much. He's just glad he's alive, and wants to say so.

So you're thinking, "How is this newsworthy?" Well, turns out some people are very upset about the ad. So upset, that they demand that it be censored, removed, not shown.

Huh? What people? Women's groups.

Why? Use of scantily-clad females to sell products by sexual suggestion? Oh no, no no no, no problem there.

Well, was Tebow some powerful person who took advantage of his high and trusted office to use a subordinate woman as his sexual plaything, and then urge other subordinate women to perjure themselves to save his career?

No, but there is a connection I'll explain in a moment.

No, Tebow's crime is that he's specifically glad he is alive instead of having been aborted by his mother's choice.

There you have it. His very existence is an affront to the dark sacrament of our day: a woman's "right" to kill inconvenient, imperfect, or ill-fathered children.

If the Lord tarries, I anticipate the day when future generations look back on our culture's attitude towards abortion as we look back on slavery, exposure, "sacred" whores, and gladiatorial games. It is black ice in our national reasoning-process, an area of moral insanity where no amount of facts and logic can intrude.

It's why a man can embody and live out real contempt for women, and real abuse of them as soulless objects, yet be given a pass by all women's groups simply because he guards The Unholy Sacrament.

The moral black-ice of abortion is what gives birth to burbling, barking, retire-to-Bedlam stuff like this:
Terry O'Neill, the president of the National Organization for Women, said she had respect for the private choices made by women such as Pam Tebow but condemned the planned ad as "extraordinarily offensive and demeaning."

"That's not being respectful of other people's lives," O'Neill said. "It is offensive to hold one way out as being a superior way over everybody else's."
She really said that. I added the emphases, but did not make that up. Did Ms. O'Neill's brain explode after that feat of logicide? The narrative does not relate.

So if you watch the Super Bowl, prepare for one commercial unlike the others.

Thanks to our friends at FOTF, and some still-sane folks at CBS.

I'm a Gators fan as it is, but if I was merely lukewarm to them, Tim Tebow would have won me over.

He's a man of integrity, whose faith in Christ takes precedence over everything else, and who is bold to proclaim the Gospel whenever and however he is given opportunity to do so.

I love when the announcers read the Bible verse he features on his eye patch thingies...

As I've commented before on various Pro-Death/Pro-life posts on various blogs,

Camille Paglia is one liberal who has it totally right when it comes to abortion. She also nails the Clinton point.

Let's take the issue of abortion rights, of which I am a firm supporter. As an atheist and libertarian, I believe that government must stay completely out of the sphere of personal choice. Every individual has an absolute right to control his or her body. (Hence I favor the legalization of drugs, though I do not take them.) Nevertheless, I have criticized the way that abortion became the obsessive idée fixe of the post-1960s women's movement -- leading to feminists' McCarthyite tactics in pitting Anita Hill with her flimsy charges against conservative Clarence Thomas (admittedly not the most qualified candidate possible) during his nomination hearings for the Supreme Court. Similarly, Bill Clinton's support for abortion rights gave him a free pass among leading feminists for his serial exploitation of women -- an abusive pattern that would scream misogyny to any neutral observer.

But the pro-life position, whether or not it is based on religious orthodoxy, is more ethically highly evolved than my own tenet of unconstrained access to abortion on demand. My argument (as in my first book, "Sexual Personae,") has always been that nature has a master plan pushing every species toward procreation and that it is our right and even obligation as rational human beings to defy nature's fascism. Nature herself is a mass murderer, making casual, cruel experiments and condemning 10,000 to die so that one more fit will live and thrive.

Hence I have always frankly admitted that abortion is murder, the extermination of the powerless by the powerful. Liberals for the most part have shrunk from facing the ethical consequences of their embrace of abortion, which results in the annihilation of concrete individuals and not just clumps of insensate tissue. The state in my view has no authority whatever to intervene in the biological processes of any woman's body, which nature has implanted there before birth and hence before that woman's entrance into society and citizenship.

She's at least honest and I hope she comments on this.

I can't wait to see the commercial but I would not be surprised if they pull it off the air due to pressure..but we'll see.

I heard about this last week and figured it would result in a firestorm of criticism from left field.

Let's pray that CBS will not cave in to pressure, and that the Ad will in fact be shown.

Regarding Tebow's infamous under-eye Bible verses, in a recent game, he was wearing Hebrews 12:1-2.

On one play, he was chased out of the pocket, stumbled, and ended up fumbling - recovered by the opposition.

The announcer quipped, "I bet Tebow didn't realize how significant his choice of bible verses would be! Hebrews 12, verse 12 (having misread what Tebow wrote): "Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble".

Ooops!

I was wondering what those headlines were about.. Of course I never clicked but I did notice. What an interesting story indeed. Of course I'm not so sure morals are something that the other sponsors really want... So if a front group is established, well, it sells and it helps to quell Christians a.k.a dissidents to the political correctness that would rather real Christians take a back seat to what these folks have been doing to this country for quite sometime then that's what they'll do.

God bless !

I'll be snickering the rest of the week. Good word, that.

"It is offensive to hold one way out as being a superior way over everybody else's."

WOW! Ms. O'Neill must have been misquoted, since I'd gather her statement must have ended with the phrase "unless you are holding out abortion as the superior way."

As you so aptly put it DJP, a feat of logicide. Truly.

So far, it looks like CBS is weathering the storm of protest:

CBS Reacts to Controversial Tebow Super Bowl Ad

and some still-sane folks at CBS.

I don't know if it really is sanity as it just is that money talks.

As the wise and sage like Rosie O'Donnell responded to David Letterman when he asked her why she did K-Mart commercials: "Money Dave. Lots and lots of money."

Rachael Starke said...

And given that it is about money, thank God for whoever He prompted at FOTF (a ministry that usually makes me want to rip my hair out of my scalp) to fund the idea. Talk about using unrighteous mammon for a good cause...

It reminds me of the ads that came out after The One was elected president re: his single mom status and the choice she made.

Pro Aborts are all about choice, as long as it's the choice they want you to choose....

Oh, I know. What must the inside of that woman's brain look like?

Or even take the minor statement: "It is offensive to hold one way out as being a superior way over everybody else's."

So...not holding one way out as being a superior way over everybody else's is one superior way to holding one way out as being a superior way over everybody else's. And it's the only way. Right?

BOOOOOOM!!!

I cannot remember which Superbowl it was now, but it has been a while ago. But I remember that they aired a distincly pro-choice commercial. It showed farms, and mid-Westerny type people and stuff, all smiling and happy in the sun. Then it went straight into something for Planned Parenthood.

Does anyone else remember that?

Nick Rolland said...

It cracks me up when these folks describe the Super Bowl as "an event designed to bring people together."

I am under the impression that this is an event designed to determine the winner of the NFL.

DJP said...

Oh Nick, that's so un-hopey-changey of you.

O'Neil is a one-woman tsunami of stupidity.

I enjoyed the entire post, but this was a particularly good turn of phrase:

I pray God continues to use Tim Tebow as a platform to point many to Christ.
I also pray God helps him with his throwing motion so he actually gets drafted and trains him to scramble so he can survive more than one NFL season. That would help with the whole platform thingy.

The interviews given by the pro-women's groups have been sad. These people's objection is that FOTF is homophobic and against abortion so their ad shouldn't be shown no matter what is shown. One woman nearly said it was a bad choice not to abort Tebow. Gallagher almost got her to say it but she caught herself.
